5 holiday gifts for your favorite traveler
A quick three-day trip recently reminded me there are a few travel accessories that I can’t live without. All played a role in making this last trip easier, and would be worthy of gifting to your favorite traveler.
First, a new-to-me item that I am enthralled with.
Kizik’s slip-on shoes
Kizik’s slip-on shoes are perfect for the airport where you may have to take your shoes off when passing through security. I had seen the social media ads for these sporty shoes but didn’t quite believe they would be so easy to get on and off. But I was wrong.
They’re a game changer. I tried the women’s Madrid Eco in Olive. I love them. They’re indeed very easy to get on and off, comfortable and attractive. They”re $99 and the company offers free shipping in time for Christmas delivery with orders placed by Dec. 13. You can order as late as Dec. 20 for Christmas delivery with expedited shipping.
As the company says, these are hands-free shoes; “As you slide your foot into it, the internal structure of the heel compresses and then once your foot is in, it springs back into place, securing the shoe without you ever having to touch it. Kiziks are the perfect way to quickly get through airport security without having to bend down to take off/put on your shoes.”
My other favorite travel items are things I’ve used happily for a long time, all across the world.
Foster-Grant’s Lightspecs
Foster-Grant’s Lightspecs reading glasses have been traveling with me for years and have so many uses.
They’re great for reading in a darkened airplane, but they also work well for reading on dark trains, perusing menus in dark restaurants, and putting keys into doors where there is not adequate lighting. They’ve kept me from interrupting the sleep of my husband, who doesn’t stay awake reading as late as I do.
They’re also particularly useful if your lodging doesn’t offer a lamp bedside. You can order online at Amazon, but they’re also usually available in store at Walgreen’s for about $25 in a variety of magnification strengths.
Garnet Hill’s cashmere wrap
Garnet Hill’s cashmere wrap goes with me almost everywhere, including warm weather destinations. That’s because it’s not too bulky to fit in carry-ons to use to ward off chills from the cold temps on airplanes. It can be used in a pinch as a pillow.
But I’ve also used it as a scarf to keep me warm in arctic temperatures. And to accent a plain dress in a more moderate climate. Once it did double duty as a robe when I had room service delivery. I never travel without it. Now, it’s time for a new one. At $189 it’s a useful travel item and an affordable luxury.
And there are two other items that I think would make great gifts for travelers and I’m anxious to try out for myself.
AeroPress’ Go travel coffee maker
AeroPress’ Go travel coffee maker is calling my name. I’m addicted to my morning coffee, and it can spoil my day if I don’t start with a good cup. At $31.95, it’s an affordable travel companion. The company says it “rapidly brews smooth, pure-tasting coffee without the acidity or grit” in under a minute. The device stores in its own coffee mug and weighs less than 12 ounces, so it can fit in a backpack or carryon. And, of course, it gives you the options of brewing local coffee while still in the destination.
Olika’s clip-on hydrating hand sanitizer
Olika’s clip-on hydrating hand sanitizer gets great reviews. And at just $4.99, with free shipping, this item is worth considering for a stocking stuffer. I’ve got a few being delivered any day. They come in cute colors with matching fragrances. There are even some designed for kids. It’s a perfect small gift.
