For 13 years I have lived in Palm Springs and never had an occasion to visit the Skylark Hotel. The opportunity presented itself and I discovered it’s a charming spot! It offers a unique blend of hospitality, design, and local culture, making it an excellent choice for both Palm Springs residents and out-of-towners. Here’s why this delightful hotel has captured my attention and why you should consider making it your next getaway.

A Warm Welcome to the Skylark Hotel

I attended the official reopening night, excited to explore the hotel and connect with fellow locals and members of the press. Upon entering the courtyard, I was struck by the ambiance created by large trees, inviting benches, and firepits with flames seemingly dancing to the DJ’s music. These features enhance the scene and create a welcoming atmosphere that would likely encourage guests to linger and enjoy the space.

On the other side of the courtyard, the large pool shimmered invitingly under the dark-ink blue sky filled with stars. The weather and setting were perfect for mingling and enjoying the lively atmosphere.

Unique Reception Experience

As I came through the door, I expected a traditional registration desk. Instead, I saw the restaurant, which I would later learn was the Lost Property Palm Springs, which was opening in tandem with the revamped hotel.

The path was well-lit, and I could see people mingling at the end, so I wandered further into the courtyard and discovered an Airstream trailer serving as the reception area. A creative and unexpected touch set the tone for the hotel’s character. Co-owner Amitesh Damur explained the inspiration behind this choice:

“When we decided to make room for the restaurant, it made sense to have it on North Palm Canyon for its accessibility to residents. Finding the Airstream was challenging. Now, it fills a previously underutilized space, and we notice it brings smiles to people’s faces as they walk through the parking lot gate.”

This imaginative approach catches the eye and welcomes guests to the charming patio surrounding the Airstream. It’s a perfect spot for a casual gathering or simply unwinding with a book and a beverage.

Relaxing Amenities

The Skylark features 28 thoughtfully designed rooms surrounding the courtyard and pool, making it ideal for leisure and corporate retreats. The upper-level deluxe rooms have modern bathrooms, luxury bath products, and comfortable seating. I particularly enjoyed the view from the second-floor balcony. Leaning on the railing, I felt a sense of calm and stood there soaking in the scene below.

While the second floor requires climbing steps (there is no elevator), the effort is well worth it for the stunning scenery and peaceful ambiance. Just a heads up for pet owners: Fido will need to stay home, as animals are not allowed in the hotel. However, they can remain on the restaurant patio with you, so the locals have a hip new place to take their pups.

Dining at Lost Property Palm Springs

For those seeking a delightful dining experience, Lost Property Palm Springs opens at 7:00 a.m. and offers indoor and outdoor seating options. As I entered the restaurant, I was greeted by the friendly staff, including Operations Partner Rhino Williams, who made me feel right at home. The glass case displayed a tempting variety of specialty pastries.

After sampling the menu, I can confidently say that everything I tasted was superb. The BIG news is that lobster rolls will always be a staple on their menu. These mouthwatering treats are piled high with fresh lobster flown in regularly, making them a standout choice. People used to line up at the Lobster Truck, but now you don’t have to—you can enjoy this delicacy right at the hotel.

If you’re out exploring Palm Springs during the day and find yourself returning late, Lost Property is one of the few restaurants open until 11:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. It’s the perfect spot to unwind with one of their specialty craft cocktails after a day of adventures.

With its combination of a beautiful ambiance, great food, and unique character, the Skylark is truly a crowning gem among Palm Springs Preferred Small Hotels.

As a local, I’m thrilled to have discovered the Skylark Hotel and Lost Property Palm Springs restaurant. I can’t wait to return. It’s a place that offers a stay and an experience—a spot where you can connect with the community, indulge in delicious cuisine, and relax. So, if you’re looking for a new favorite place to unwind or dine, I’ll see you at the restaurant! theskylark.com
