Carlsbad Superbloom at The Flower Fields
Now through May 8, 2022, millions of vibrant colored ranunculus in a rainbow of colors are blooming over 50 acres of Flower Fields on the hillside of Carlsbad Ranch in Carlsbad, CA. Tecolote Giant Ranunculus bulbs were planted in stages in ribbon-like bands of color for visitors to enjoy in Spring. At the field’s floral peak, there are close to 80 million flowers in full bloom.
Besides the ranunculus, Carlsbad Ranch also offers a hillside of petunias planted as the American Flag. Red, white and blue petunias are strategically planted below The Cassara Carlsbad Resort. Many of the guest rooms overlook the superbloom of flowers. Now through May 8, 2022, the resort is offering a “Stay and See Flower Fields Package”. Stay in one of the well appointed guest rooms above the Carlsbad Flower Fields and receive two admission tickets to enter The Flower Fields. Nightly savings include waived hotel parking. The fields are close enough to walk to, or the resort offers a complimentary shuttle to and from the fields.
Be sure to purchase a tractor wagon ride for an an open-air tour through the fields. An audio commentary enlightens visitors about the history of the ranch. Explore the historical poinsettia greenhouse filled with 20 rare and unusual varieties. This holiday flower came to the U.S. from Mexico by an American botanist, physician and Minister to Mexico, Joel Roberts Poinsett in 1828. It was then further developed by Paul Ecke and currently grown in nearby Encinitas at the Paul Ecke Ranch.
Other areas to visit include a stroll through the fragrant Sweet Pea Maze, visit the Illusion Garden, Mediterranean Garden, Demonstration Garden by the Master Gardeners of San Diego and a sea of sunflowers in different colors, shapes and sizes blooming in mid-April. Nearby at the northern part of The Flower Fields is a U-Pick Blueberries experience. Purchase a pint basket for $5 to pick your own berries.
Throughout The Flower Fields are props for photos and Instagram moments. Sit on a tractor in a pink field of ranunculus, or in one of the giant Adirondack chairs. There is a playground area for families displaying whimsical houses and colorful mushrooms that were once part of Santa’s Village above Lake Arrowhead.
