The Traveler Beer Company knows no seasonal boundaries and is proving that this winter with the re-release of the world’s first holiday shandy, Jolly Traveler. Making its national debut in November, Jolly is redefining the Shandy season by offering fans everything they want in a holiday beverage. Inspired by the senses of the season, Jolly is an American craft wheat ale made with real orange, pomegranate and a hint of holiday spice — making it the perfect beverage choice for entertaining. While many winter seasonal beers are heavy and high in alcohol, Jolly Traveler extends the Shandy season year-round with a session-able beer that exudes holiday cheer.
“At Traveler, we don’t follow the norms,” said Alan Newman, founder of The Traveler Beer Company. “We decided to go a different route and brew our craft wheat ale with the fruit flavors of the season to create the perfect holiday shandy. It’s jolly, merry and bright, and we think our fans will agree.” The Traveler Beer Company, inspired by the old European pub classic, takes the traditional shandy and infuses it with American craft beer innovation and passion. Rather than mixing ale with a citrus flavored soda or lemonade, Traveler’s American wheat beers are actually made with real fruit or fruit juices, such as lemon and grapefruit, making for a refreshingly approachable and session-able beer.
Jolly Traveler, released last year in select states, will be available on tap at bars and restaurants nationwide, and in 6-packs at stores where craft beer is sold. Holly Jolly Cherry
1 oz. Cherry Brandy
5 oz. Scotch
3-4oz. Jolly Traveler
Fill a shaker half way with ice. Combine the brandy and scotch, along with two dashes of bitters. Stir and strain into a chilled martini glass. Top with 3-4oz. of Jolly Traveler. Garnish with a cherry.
Naughty and Nice
Fill a pint glass half way with Jolly Traveler. Gently top with Irish stout by pouring slowly over an upside-down spoon.
1 oz. Scotch
5 oz. White Creme de Menthe
3 oz. Jolly Traveler
Fill a shaker half way with ice. Add scotch and white creme. Stir and strain into a double rocks glass with a large ice cube. Add Jolly Traveler. Garnish with lemon zest.
Traveling Winter Rum Runner
1.5 oz. Gold Rum
2 oz. Apple Cider
.5 oz. Lemon Juice
Fill a shaker half way with ice. Add gold rum, apple cider and lemon juice. Shake and strain into an 8-10 oz. Collins glass filled with ice. Top with Jolly Traveler. Garnish with fresh cinnamon.
Jolly Gin Juicer
1 oz. Gin
.5 oz. Raspberry Liqueur
1 oz. Cranberry Juice
Fill a shaker half way with ice. Add gin, raspberry liqueur and cranberry juice. Shake and strain into an 8-10 oz. Collins glass. Top with Jolly Traveler. Garnish with a lime wedge.
