Road Trip Rides of the Rich and Famous: Luxury Motorhomes to Swoon Over
What image comes to mind when you hear the word “motorhome”? Is it that rusty old clunker that’s basically a character unto itself in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation? Or maybe you recall the sleek, silver Airstream that your snowbird grandparents drove from Long Island to sunny Florida each spring. Either way, motorhomes aren’t exactly synonymous with luxury living.
Or are they? You might be surprised to learn that there are some models with million-dollar (or more) price tags and the amenities to match. Let’s take a look at some of the opulent, luxurious recreational vehicles that money can buy!
Go Big or Go Home
If you’re going to splash out on a motorhome, you might as well go for broke, right? Well, in a manner of speaking, that is. You’ll actually need to have a spare $3 mil lying around to purchase the EleMMent Palazzo Superior from Marchi Mobile. Billed as a “mobile mansion,” this highest-end vehicle looks a bit like an alien spacecraft, at least from the outside.
On the inside, the 45-foot motorhome resembles something more akin to a magnificent penthouse apartment. The master bedroom features a king-size bed, a beautiful vanity area, and a surprising amount of storage room, including closets. In the bathroom, enjoy a rainfall shower with electronic water control and light therapy options.
There’s an onboard media server, two 42-inch LED screens, a world-class audio system from Steinway & Lyngdorf, and of course wi-fi to keep you connected at all times. While you enjoy a movie or some music, relax in the lounge area, which also boasts an extendable, adjustable sofa, a two-level adjustable table, and a drinks cooler, wine cabinet and coffee maker.
When the Palazzo Superior is stopped, head on up to the “sky lounge” (or rooftop, as the commoners would call it) where you can enjoy some fresh air underneath an automatic sun canopy with integrated lighting and audio.
Have Helicopter, Will Travel… by Road?
Of course, if you’re going to fork over a couple million for a recreational vehicle, why not get one that offers its own helicopter? After all, there’s no point in limiting your tony transportation options to the ground only.
Enter the Furrion ELYSIUM, which was first unveiled at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show, then retooled in an even more sumptuous incarnation the next year. This incredible concept glamping vehicle has not only a helipad and matching copter — because you simply never know when you might need to jet off to some idyllic locale that’s inaccessible by ground — but also a rooftop deck with a hot tub. (It’s hard work jet-setting back and forth!)
Inside this swanky RV, which starts at $2.5 million, there are plenty of other amenities to help you live your best life while on the road. Drivers benefit from a touch-screen interface, while those who are just along for the ride can enjoy a lounge with a 75-inch flat-screen television and a working fireplace, a bathroom featuring a smart shower and steam-room combo, and a fully equipped kitchen with a wine fridge.
Not Your Average Mobile Home
Mobile homes are generally eschewed by the affluent, but not so “mobile estates.” That’s the term used by Anderson Mobile Estates, which could be considered the custom motorhome purveyor to the stars. Their celebrity clients include Vin Diesel, Denzel Washington, Harrison Ford, Ice Cube, J-Lo, and Bill Clinton, and Will Smith, who purchased the prototype of the two-story mansion-on-wheels and who is often credited with popularizing the custom celebrity motorhome trend.
Stunning wood interiors, professional-quality kitchen appliances, full bars, leather furniture, and state-of-the-art entertainment systems outfit these incredible spaces. Anderson’s custom-built trailers don’t necessarily reflect the sleek or space-age aesthetic that is so common in even top-of-the-line motorhomes. Instead, they’re crafted to meet each client’s individual desires, meaning that the design possibilities are nearly endless.
When it comes to cost, these yacht-inspired land cruisers vary widely, depending on which lavish options you simply can’t do without. To paraphrase notable one-percenter J.P. Morgan, however, if you have to ask how much an Anderson RV costs, it’s not likely that you can afford one.
The Last Word on Luxury Motorhomes
Whether you’re lucky enough to pilot an extravagant recreational vehicle like these million-dollar models, or you are content to tool around in an ordinary Winnebago, ensure a hassle-free trip by looking into protection plans, like a Good Sam Motorhome Warranty. (Helicopter coverage is separate!)
Are these palatial wheels making you green with envy, or are you content to rough it in a more modest motorhome? What custom amenities would you insist on if you could design your own upscale RV? Have your say in the comments!
