Rockin’ the Rooftop at Charlotte’s Merchant & Trade

Rockin’ the Rooftop at Charlotte’s Merchant & Trade

Growing up, I had an affinity for tree-house escapes and boys-only club meetings. The attraction of getting high above it all made me and the crew feel special.

Scottish Siren

These days it’s co-ed confabs at stylish rooftop lounges where top-drawer views are equaled only by the same quality cocktails, Southern Low-country cuisine and service that has my attention. In Charlotte, North Carolina’s Queen City, there’s no finer rooftop venue than Uptown’s Merchant & Trade. The 19th-floor indoor / outdoor lounge overlooking Truist Field and crowning The Kimpton Tryon Park Hotel stands out not only in the QC, but in the southeast for its hospitality, cocktail focus, dining options, and comfort.

M &T is celebrating their recent full-scale design transformation where they’ve upped the bar (sorry) for guests with new hardwood flooring, woven rattan and teak furnishings, and sleek sofas. There’s a freshly remade VIP area with vintage sunflower hued sofas, abstract botanical patterned cushions, and an exclusive air complimented by panoramic views of Bank Town. Glowing fire pits allow guests to gather and enjoy the warmth on cooler evenings. M & T’s high touch service makes for an extra special evening out.

On a recent visit with my wife and S-I-L we enjoyed Wagyu beef sliders, a custom-created charcuterie board and some honey glazed hush puppies alongside M & T’s hand crafted cocktails before our date at the theater.

The cocktail program here covers all the bases ranging from sweet and sultry like the Habitual Mistakes (Grey Goose vodka, hibiscus ginger syrup, wildflower honey, fresh lime, and grapefruit juice) to the smoky Scottish Siren (Glenfiddich 12-year, Peaty Scotch Whisky, house-made berry cordial, Chinola passion-fruit liqueur, L’orgeat, fresh lemon, pineapple, and coconut) to the classic Martini’s and Old Fashioned’s, and an extensive mocktail list.

Those preferring bubbles, sophisticated wine offerings, tequila and mescal, and more than 100 whisky’s and bourbon’s will not be disappointed. It’s. All. Here.
