With‌ ‌an‌ ‌increase‌ ‌in‌ ‌people‌ ‌visiting‌ ‌York‌, you’ll notice there’s a fair few tourists exploring throughout the year. It’s likely that a lot of them will head to the Shambles, which are a set of narrow streets winding their way through the heart of the city. However, a set of roads less travelled by visitors are the Snickelways. You can only explore them by foot, and they give you a wonderful and whimsical way of discovering York. Make sure to note the names of the passages, as they offer insight into the history of each place.

Evil Eye

Evil Eye is one of the best cocktail spots in the town. Even though it’s one of the top 50 cocktail bars in the country, you still need to know where to look. It is tucked away behind a gin shop and when you step foot into the bar you’ll be greeted by a wall of spirits. Plus, friendly and knowledgeable, staff. Whether you want to chill out in a four-poster bed or potter to the patio, you will want to have a drink in hand. Evil Eye has an extensive list of cocktails, and with such a large array of flavours they have something to suit everyone’s taste.

The House of Trembling Madness

This pub is hidden on Stonegate, one of York’s busiest streets. It has over 600 kinds of brews and you’re bound to find a delicious beer and food pairing. This medieval ale house gives you a true taste of the best independent beer selection within the country. Don’t just take our word for it. The House of Trembling Madness won the UK’s Best Independent Craft Retailer in 2019. Grab a pint, or two, and enjoy the atmosphere of the place.

York offers you a chance to get a taste of English history, alongside some of the best food and drink North Yorkshire has to offer. It makes for a perfect city break. Where is your favourite spot to visit there?
