The city of Carlsbad in Southern California celebrates a super bloom this Spring with their famous blooming giant Tecolote Ranunculus fields. Near the center of town, the hills are ablaze with a kaleidoscope of flowers between the Pacific Ocean and LEGOLAND.

The Carlsbad Ranch at The Flower Fields is located behind Armstrong Garden Center. This year the ranch offers fun props to enhance visitors photo opportunities. Guests can sit on a tractor or giant chair while posing next to rows of yellow, white, pink, purple, red, golden and salmon colored flowers.

Other visitor opportunities include riding in a wagon pulled by an antique tractor to learn about the history of this one-of-a-kind farm. Even though Ranunculus are the stars, another beautiful sight is a large American flag made with rows of red, white and blue petunias. There is an interactive flower maze made with blooming, colorful and fragrant sweet peas. Other exhibits include the history of the poinsettia plant, and a large greenhouse showcasing Cymbidium Orchids in a multitude of colors.

These flowers are cut, while others stay in the field for farmers to collect the seeds and replant in the same field for the next season. Flowers and bulbs are harvested and packaged to sell at the onsite Armstrong Garden store for the public to plant at home.

During April and May there are a variety of fun and special events that include food trucks, live-music performances, flower arranging classes, photo workshops, tea in the gardens and sunset wine tastings with food at tables in the fields.

Visitors can enjoy a relaxing afternoon tea surrounded by vibrant, blooming Ranunculus. Enjoy the beauty of Spring over delicious food and tea provided by the Grand Tea Room. The menu includes fresh fruit, tea sandwiches, quiche, scones with Devonshire cream, lemon curd & jam, assorted petite desserts and unlimited freshly steeped tea.

Another special event in the flowers includes an all level yoga class. An entry ticket includes exploring The Flower Fields, the yoga class and photos made available by LuV Photography.

The final event is May 12 on Mothers Day with entertainment. The stage will be filled throughout the day with the colorful dancing of the Rancho Buena Vista High School’s Baile Folklórico.
