Weekend Escape to Delray Beach

When you live in Central Florida, summer can feel long. Days are filled with endless sunshine, soaring temperatures, and afternoon thunderstorms. The solution? Escape to the beach!

Looking for a quick getaway from our home in Orlando, my husband I decided to head to Delray Beach for some cooler ocean breezes and change of scenery. Located in South Florida midway between West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale, Delray is a small town big on fun. Upscale boutiques, tons of restaurants, and miles of sandy beaches are part of the draw.

To add to the adventure, we took the Brightline train from Orlando to Boca Raton. I ordered an Uber to pick us up for the quick 20-minute ride to Delray Beach. If you haven’t tried the Brightline train, I highly recommend this method of travel up and down the coast of Florida. Instead of stressing in traffic, I ate my lunch, finished a book, and watched a movie. It was so relaxing I was almost sad when the journey ended.

Arriving at Crane’s Beach House Boutique Hotel and Luxury Villas, we entered the gates into a tropical hideaway and followed the signs to the office. Located just a block away from the beach and the bustle of Atlantic Avenue, Crane’s is the perfect location for a car-free, carefree vacation.

Luxury Accommodations

Crane’s Beach House offers 28 “beach chic” suites and villas nestled in an expansive tropical garden of swaying palm trees, birds of paradise, and orchids.

 

Every room has either a full kitchen or kitchenette, sumptuous bedding, and cozy soft bathrobes. One-bedroom suites and villas have separate dining and living areas, with private patios or courtyards.

Convenient free parking leads to two secure, gated entrances. Once you step inside, whimsical signs point the way around the property, with paths winding through the lush landscaping. Ocean-themed murals, mosaic tiled fountains, and signature crane sculptures add an elegant, island vibe.

 

Our deluxe one-bedroom suite had all the comforts of home: a generous-sized bedroom with attached bath, Nespresso coffee maker, comfortable seating area, elegant dining table, and tranquil private patio with Adirondack chairs. With soothing sounds from a nearby fountain, this was my favorite spot for coffee after a morning beach walk.

I didn’t do any cooking on my short stay, but the fully equipped kitchen and spacious living area meant I could easily have settled in for a longer stay and prepared some meals at my home away from home. Unlike some properties that tack on resort or cleaning fees, Crane’s doesn’t have any extra charges or hidden fees, which makes booking so much simpler.

Amenities at Crane’s Beach House

Exploring the property was like a treasure hunt, with inviting spaces waiting to be discovered. My husband was quick to find the hammock, and quickly hopped in while I explored the rest of the outdoor living room.

There’s a comfortable seating area and dining spot under the shady palapa framed by a babbling fountain on one side and swimming pool on the other. The sand under the lounge chairs added a beach feel to the swimming area.

A second pool area has a Tiki area with shady seating. If you really had to work on your vacation, this would be the perfect place to set up shop.

There’s on onsite lobby with a small selection of souvenirs and friendly staff on duty. I liked the keypad entrance to my room – no worry about losing my room key in the ocean. We dropped our bags and headed to the beach.

You can grab the beach towels and chairs from your room or rent a set up of lounge chairs and umbrellas on the beach. With the ocean just one block away, we made several trips a day to look for shells, watch the kite surfers, and enjoy watching the waves.

Exploring Delray Beach

In between dips in the ocean and naps in the shade, we explored the shops and restaurants around town on foot. It was a five-minute stroll to 50 Ocean, where we enjoyed grouper tacos and happy hour cocktails with a stunning ocean view.

A fifteen-minute walk in the other direction led us to dinner at J & J Seafood Bar and Grill, a favorite with locals. And we couldn’t help but pop into Ben & Jerry’s for ice cream on the way back. Having a freezer and fully stocked kitchen meant we were able to pick up a pint to enjoy back in our room.

When the heat got the best of us, we ordered a ride with Freebee, a free on demand shuttle sponsored by the city of Delray Beach. With a few taps on the app, a friendly driver in an electric golf cart zipped up to our door and delivered us to our destination.

We took advantage of this convenient service in the historic downtown to get to Silverball Pinball Museum where hundreds of vintage pinball machines and video games welcomed us to their air-conditioned home.

After the arcade, we roamed around town, stopping at the Wine Room for an informal tasting session, followed by dinner in the charming tree-filled courtyard at DaDa, a quirky, award-winning restaurant located in a historic 1924 house. Rain moved in as we finished dinner, but within 10 minutes, a FreeBee shuttle arrived to take us back to Crane’s Beach House.

A car-free and carefree weekend couldn’t have been easier. Staying at Crane’s offered the charming, Old Florida vibe I love set in a modern, lush, luxurious setting. Walking along the beach, having lunch on the Intracoastal waterway, and retreating to our quiet, romantic hideout is what a tropical vacation in Delray Beach is all about.
