Reynolds Lake Oconee – This Must be Golf Heaven

Reynolds Lake Oconee – This Must be Golf Heaven

When The Landing Golf Course opened in Reynolds Lake Oconee in 1986, no one could have predicted what would happen next. The Bob Cupp designed 7,000-yard, 18-hole layout would spark one of golf’s longest-running success stories ever.

Today, Reynolds Lake Oconee’s 12,000-acres in Greensboro, GA, is home to six critically acclaimed championship golf courses and one of the finest club building and instructional centers in the world. These courses and facilities represent a Who’s Who in golf architecture and game improvement.

Legendary names like Nicklaus, Fazio, Jones, Cupp, Engh, and TaylorMade have aligned themselves, and their brands, with this tranquil golf community. Is there something in the water that has sparked an almost mystical appeal over the years? Let’s pull back the curtain on the Reynolds Lake Oconee courses, designers, and amenities that combine to make up Georgia’s dreamy slice of golf heaven.

The Landing Golf Course is the original, a groundbreaking course that triggered the best kind of golf tradition. This Scottish-style 6,900-yard layout now serves as the foundation for the golf mecca that Reynolds Lake Oconee would become. The Landing’s 1986 opening was a precursor to the Tiger Woods golf boom of the 90s. Almost 35 years later, The Landing’s marriage to Lake Oconee’s 375 miles of shoreline has grown into a launching pad of golf bliss.

The Preserve Golf Course is a Bob Cupp design encore creation. Cupp was assisted by U.S. Open winners Fuzzy Zoeller and Hubert Green for this 6,700-yard track. How popular was The Preserve in 2021? Rounds skyrocketed from 25,000 annually to 32,000, just through November.

The Great Waters Golf Course burst on the scene in 1992 when Jack Nicklaus painted a masterful 7,400-yard design. The Great Waters back nine is where things come alive with eight holes showcasing Lake Oconee.

The National Golf Course features 27 award-winning golf holes. A bonus to playing this Tom Fazio design in the spring is the rainbow of flowers accenting the course. Players can anticipate a hardwood forest surround, gently sloping terrain, infinity greens, and elevated tee boxes offering majestic views.

The Oconee Golf Course is a 7,100-yard masterpiece designed by Rees Jones that opened in 2002. A Jones design is noted for delivering spectacular Par 3’s, and this is definitely true at Oconee. The Oconee course is just a stone’s throw from The Ritz Carlton luxury resort and The Kingdom club building and instructional facility. Pretty nice company to keep by any golfer’s standards.

The Creek Club opened in 2007 with a mandate to offer golfers something exceptionally unique. Jim Engh designed an amazing 7,000-yard course featuring mind-bending contours, shimmering undulations, funneled corridors, and steep elevation changes. The Creek Club is a members-only amenity, so it’s time to call in a Reynolds Lake favor for a tee time at this keepsake by the lake.

The Kingdom is everything a golfer could dream of in club fitting, golf instruction, and unique golf experiences. Two TaylorMade tour trucks greet golfers desiring PGA pro level fittings and club building. Once you’ve determined the finest details in what you need in new sticks, it’s time to elevate your game with unparalleled instruction.
