10 Reasons To Reserve The All New Scout Traveler SUV & Scout Terra Truck

At the recent reveal of the all new electric Scout Traveler SUV and Scout Terra truck concept, Chris Benjamin, Chief Design Officer of Scout Motors, enlightened 300 invited guests about how this new start-up car company is ushering a new era of Scout vehicles. These new vehicles are designed and engineered in Michigan, and manufactured in South Carolina, creating over 4,000 American jobs.

The Scout, originally produced by International Harvester from the 1960s to 1980, was the world’s first utility vehicle capable of both off-road adventure and family fun. Now Scout Motors brings back a modern Scout design, honoring Scout’s heritage for a dedicated community of drivers. These drivers use their vehicles on farms, in the wilderness, and for family outings and vacations.

Here are 10 Reasons to Consider Owning a Scout:

Scout’s Are Zippy

The company anticipates 0-60 miles per hour in 3.5 seconds. All Scout vehicles will use the North American Charging Standard 800-volt architecture, up to 350 kilowatt charging capability.

Combat Range Anxiety

For those worried about range and charging anxiety, Scout Motors also has plans to make an extended range Scout Harvester that is a hybrid with a gas-powered generator. It is projected to offer more than 500 miles of range. Drivers can refuel at a pump or plug-in an electric plug, with the Scout Harvester energy system. The Scout vehicle software is being built to enable over-the-air updates, remote diagnostic, and enhanced customer lifetime value.

Sophisticated Interior

The instrument panel is defined by a bold upper brow and deep undercut, reminiscent of the original Scout II, with a lower bar that defines the horizontality of the interior layout and frames the screens in between. The center display is complemented by a bank of toggle switches and knobs for easy use of the climate controls. They are easier to move and adjust temperature and volume levels while driving. The ambient lit door handles welcomes drivers and passengers in the evening. There is a grab bar near the passenger door that is easy to hold for those looking to go off-roading.

Bold Iconic Design

Both the Scout Traveler and Scout Terra will be built on an all-new and proprietary body-on-frame platform with a solid rear axle. This design will deliver off-road performance and towing capability with more than 10,000 pounds of towing on the Terra truck, and over 7,000 pounds of towing on the Traveler SUV.

Made For Work, Play and Towing

“The Scout SUV and Truck feature a bold, rugged design with iconic proportions,” said Benjamin. “It’s very short front overhang, long dash-to-axle, and weight of the cabin shifted to the rear.” The front and rear mechanical lockers deliver robust capability and off-road performance. They will also offer up to 35 -inch tires, and over 1 foot of ground clearance and robust suspension options.

Scout Is A Work Of Art

Reminiscent of a signature on a piece of art, the Scout emblem logo on the vehicle is to the right, rather than the center.  Scout designers’ artwork includes the black masks on the front and rear as a nod to Scout heritage. The daytime running lamps (DRL) form clean, horizontal lines. They continue from the mask, into the body and mimic the visual of the side markers on the original Scout IITM SUV. “The front and rear DRLs sweeps around the vehicle like the equator sweeps around the earth,” said Benjamin.

Feel A Breeze While Driving

Scout Traveler SUV will be available with a Cabana Top to provide the driver and passengers with one of the largest roof openings of any SUV. This allows the driver and passengers an open-air experience on demand. There is also a glass roof available to provide expansive sky views with the privacy and thermal benefits of a powered shade.

Scout Motors ‘Frunk’

Both the Scout Traveler and Scout Terra include a front ‘frunk’ trunk that can hold golf clubs, a gym bag, and other sporting equipment. “A Scout vehicle should always be a helpful companion,” said Benjamin. “It should always enable the customer to do the things they want to do and make their experience easier, better, faster.”

In the back, the Scout Terra will feature a 5.5-foot pickup bed with two 120V power outlets and one 240V power outlet to enable powering up heavy-duty tools at a job site or to keep home appliances powered during an outage. The  split tailgate offers easy access to cargo and protection from the elements when opened, shielding both passengers and cargo from the weather.
