Fashion trends introduced by the members of The Beatles
The 60s were all about music and fashion and many of the trends were introduced by the members of famous bands that helped to shape pop culture. The Beatles were one of those bands and had an incredible influence on fashion, especially when it came to boots, skinny jeans, coats, sunglasses and hairstyles.
Boots
John Lennon defined his style with sharp and angular looks and usually wore biker jackets paired with boots (cowboy or motorcycle). He had a preference towards black leather jackets. Paul McCartney mostly preferred slim-fitting outfits with bright colours such as red, yellow or purple, while George Harrison enjoyed a more sporty look and often went without shirts under his suits and was seen on stage in a Nehru jacket.
Skinny jeans
Skinny jeans came on the scene in 1965 and were introduced by John Lennon. He wore his pair of Levi’s so tight that people started to notice how they accentuated his physique. This trend turned into a standard when it came to rocker fashion and continues today.
Coats
The Beatles grace the cover of their debut album Please Please Me in 1963 when they are pictured in stylish suit coats. George Harrison also wore the same coat for all or most of The Beatles’ film Help! Paul McCartney was wearing more trendy coats on his own, but John Lennon often opted for military style.
Sunglasses
In 1965, The Beatles got rid of their Beatle haircuts and started wearing sunglasses as a symbol of their new independence. They were seen regularly in shades from then on. Perhaps to hide the effects from those late nights. Ringo wore prescription glasses and rocked them in style.
Hairstyles
John cut his hair in 1965 and fans recognized his stance against the long, hippy hair trend. According to him, it was just a spur of the moment decision.
