Santa Barbara’s Newest Elegant Hideaway
There’s a new boutique bed and breakfast for discerning travelers, blending “old world” charm with “new world” comfort at Hideaway Santa Barbara. Located in the West Beach area on Montecito Street, it recently opened in June, 2019.
The Kirkwood Collection, known for their special destinations in San Luis Obispo, Palm Springs and Rancho Mirage, recently acquired a 1908 California craftsman with a carriage house under a canopy of trees, which they later converted into nine unique guest rooms, some with fireplaces and sitting areas. Founder and president Alex Kirkwood is excited about this new property. “We are delighted to present Hideaway Santa Barbara, our flagship boutique hotel located in one of the most iconic destinations in California,” he said.
The California coastal aesthetic includes sea foam green and gray blue interior colors imagined by Kirkwood Collection’s design director Michelle McClory, who has worked alongside acclaimed designers Jeffrey Alan Marks and Michael Smith.
Entering Hideaway Santa Barbara feels like walking into an elegant and modern Santa Barbara home, with skylights and three-story windows visible in the high ceiling solarium. Guests sit along banquette seating and chairs for a Mediterranean-style full breakfast in the morning, and enjoy flutes of champagne and freshly baked cookies in the early evening. A large eye-catching metal bird installation adds interest on the wall.
Room #3 offers a king size bed complete with luxury bedding and windows with views of trees and the historic Victorian-designed Fernald Mansion. This stunning example of the Victorian Queen Anne architectural style was saved from demolition and moved to its present site next door to the Historical Museum in 1959. It’s open for public tours by appointment.
The large bathroom in this room offers a stand alone subway tiled shower with extra large shower head. Inside the closet is a wine cooler refrigerator to keep a few bottles of wine chilled after visiting the Urban Wine Trail. Just a short stroll from Hideaway Santa Barbara and adjacent to the Santa Barbara Amtrak station, the trail includes the Funk Zone offering over 20 boutique tasting rooms including Pali Wine Co.
After wine tasting, take a walk out to the end of the historic wood pier for 360 degrees views of the American Riviera.
