Back to the Future: The Musical Debuts on Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas

Back to the Future: The Musical Debuts on Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas

One of the most famous lines by Dr. Emmett Brown in the blockbuster 1989 movie, Back to the Future II is – “Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need roads!” This iconic saying applies to cruise travel. No roads, just the wide open beautiful sea.

When the 9th annual Back to the Future Day was celebrated on Monday, October 21, Royal Caribbean excitedly announced their selected cast for their newest entertainment spectacular – Back to the Future: The Musical.

The Royal Caribbean entertainment team has been working alongside the musical’s original creative team to bring this show to the Star of the Seas Royal Theater stage. After two successful weeks of auditions in London and NYC, the team is excited to begin rehearsals.

This featured stage show will debut on the vacation brand’s newest ship, Star of the Seas. The construction team at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland is building this second Icon-class cruise ship. First there was the Icon of the Seas AquaDome installation, and now the team recently installed the Star of the Seas 367-ton dome. It’s a sight of epic proportions, and is the largest glass and steel structure to ever be lifted onto a cruise ship. It takes months of planning and days to install onto the ship.

Next to come to life on the ship is the buildout of the neighborhood’s restaurants, bars and the deck-defying entertainment venue, the signature AquaTheater. Those seeking adrenaline-pumping thrills will enjoy slides, water and sunshine at Thrill Island. Those looking to relax will discover unrivaled ways to unwind at Chill Island.
