Career Paths for the Budding Globe-Hopper

Career Paths for the Budding Globe-Hopper

Traveling the world is one of the more common lifetime ambitions of younger people in the US. It is only getting more common, too, as 49% of adults indicate they’d like to travel more as opposed to previous years. But what if you could turn travel into your job? There are many different career paths you can take to turn yourself into a jetsetter, some of which are admittedly more feasible than others, but what are they?

Blogger/Influencer

Becoming a successful influencer is a little like winning the lottery, though with a little more skill involved in the process. Still, your online following could be the key to monetizing international travel. By running a travel blog series on TikTok or YouTube, you could generate enough advertising revenue or Creator Fund money to travel and earn all at the same time.

Cabin Crew

What are the first things you think of when imagining a life of travel? It would be surprising if a long-haul flight wasn’t in the top three. If you’re looking for a career that guarantees a life of international travel, then, why not go right to the source and work for an airline? Commercial airlines are a great opportunity to meet new people and travel the world, while private cabin crew jobs enable you to keep unique schedules and take flight paths less traveled.

Photographer

The creatively-inclined are often also travel-inclined, such is the nature of inspiration. Some of the world’s best creative works are essentially travel books, from Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises to the life work of Lee Miller. Indeed, Miller could be the inspiration for your own creative career path, in travel photography. Whether following in her photojournalistic footsteps or following brands and bands around the world as a press photographer, there are myriad ways to see the world, both through the lens and for yourself.

International Teaching

Those who can, do; those who can’t, teach. This admittedly mean-spirited turn of phrase has some solid advice hidden within it for the wanderlust-stricken, where a teaching qualification – or even just a bachelor’s degree –  can take you to countries on the other side of the planet. English is a desirable language to learn in other countries, being the de facto language of business. As such, native English speakers with a talent for teaching are highly sought-after, particularly in China.

Healthcare

Finally, healthcare is one of the noblest professions you could enter – and could also be the one that takes you the farthest afield, too. Global health is a serious academic field that colleges around the world offer tutelage in, concerning everything from healthcare policy across borders to the injection of aid to unstable regions. You could influence policy around the world as a health ambassador; alternatively, you could change lives on the ground as a member of a healthcare non-profit.
