Relax at San Diego’s Town and Country Resort

San Diego’s Town and Country Resort is an ideal spot for families who want to see the best of the city. It’s been a go-to destination in Mission Valley for 70 years and counting. It was built in 1953 and has since seen generations of families visit its walls. In 2020, the resort completed a multi-million-dollar renovation giving it a refreshed look to keep guests coming back for decades to come.

The resort has pools, onsite dining, and a range of rooms and amenities to heighten your stay. You don’t even have to leave the property if you don’t want to. But if you do, it’s close to Fashion Valley shopping center, the San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld San Diego, Little Italy, and other notable attractions. Town and Country Resort is conveniently located under 10 miles from the San Diego International Airport, making it a great choice when visiting from out of town.

Rooms

Town and Country Resort has 671 guest rooms with amenities like a mini-fridge, Keurig coffee maker, free wifi, charging ports, and an in-room safe. Guest rooms can range in size based on your needs or bed size. They also have suites such as the 975 square foot ground level Terrace Suite with a king bed, living room, dining area, private outdoor patio, and a wet bar.

Rooms are equipped with many conveniences you need to make your stay comfortable, including robes when you want to lounge around the room. Make yourself a cup of coffee then savor the view from your balcony. Family-friendly options can include the room size or the number of beds, like some of the two-bed rooms or suites. For those traveling with a little one, I was able to request a pack and play for my infant.

Family-friendly doesn’t end with kids, you can also bring your dog. You’ll see plenty of pooches prancing around the property. Although there is a pet fee for the stay, a portion of which gets donated to Helen Woodward Animal Center.

Pools

The pools are a main attraction at Town and Country Resort. You’ll spot families heading there as soon as it opens and people staying until it closes. There’s the main pool, a small kid’s pool, the 150-foot Twister waterslide, a hot tub, and the Regency pool by the Regency Tower. The main pool is centrally located with plenty of lounge chairs. You can rent a cabana or daybed if you want an upgraded or shaded experience.

Dining

Grab a bite to eat at one of the resort’s many eateries, including ARLO, Lapper Monkey Bar, MRKT, Lap It Up, and Trixie. Each has a different look, feel, and offerings. ARLO is a more elevated sit-down dining experience whereas Lap It Up allows you to quickly order food before returning to the pool.

MRKT is like the property’s convenience store with items to grab from refrigerators as well as coffee, breakfast, pizza, and more. The Coastal Breakfast Burrito is a hearty way to start the day. It comes with braised pork carnitas, cheddar cheese, cotija cheese, egg, and potato hash, all wrapped up in a flour tortilla.

Lapper Sports Bar and Kitchen has ample indoor and outdoor seating with views of the pool. They have weekday happy hour from 4 pm to 6 pm, including drinks and certain food. Be sure to ask for the happy hour menu to score some good, tasty deals.

I particularly enjoyed the Funghi pizza, which is a mushroom-forward option made with truffle béchamel, forest mushrooms, caramelized onions, goat cheese mousse, and arugula. You can order this from the Monkey Bar or MRKT. The giant chocolate chip cookies from MRKT are great to share or bring home to eat as a souvenir of your trip.

Offers

When you book online they also have various offers and packages so be sure to check that out to see if something catches your eye. Some have included the Panda Package with a waived resort fee and two adult admission tickets for each night stayed to get into the zoo or Bed and Breakfast Package for $50 credit to ARLO for breakfast/brunch. You may find an option that catches your eye.

The amenities, pool, food options, and proximity to shops and attractions make Town and Country Resort in Mission Valley a fantastic choice for families and visitors. Learn more about the resort’s history here and happy travels!
