Sip Campari cocktails while watching this year’s New York Film Festival

Due to the global pandemic, the New York Film Festival (September 17 – October 12) can be watched in the comfort of one’s home or at a Drive-In movie theatre in Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens. For the second year in a row, the festival’s exclusive spirits partner Campari, the iconic Italian aperitif, offers cocktail recommendations for viewers to prepare while watching some of this year’s most highly-anticipated films.

Since 1963, the New York Film Festival has been a centerpiece of New York’s arts scene, and premier U.S. showcase of the best-in-the-world cinema that has shaped film culture in the city and beyond.

Presented by Film at Lincoln Center, the New York Film Festival highlights bold and remarkable films from celebrated filmmakers, as well as rising new talent. Support of the New York Film Festival benefits Film at Lincoln Center in its nonprofit mission to support the art and craft of cinema.

Through this marriage, Campari continues its long-standing commitment to the world of film and art and this year, Campari has a presence at three of the festival’s virtual Main Slate screenings including Opening Night, Centerpiece, and Closing Night, with exclusive video content. It sponsored the highly anticipated world premiere of On The Rocks, directed by Sofia Coppola and starring Bill Murray and Rashida Jones, in addition to select virtual press conferences and Q&A events.

New York Film Festival Director Eugene Hernandez said, “We are thrilled to be working with Campari once again to elevate our most important event of the season. In a unique year for the festival and for us all, it is so meaningful to continue collaborating with a partner that values our core mission—to support the art of cinema.”

Pairings of Campari and films include:

The Human Voice, a short adaptation of Jean Cocteau’s 1930 play by the same name. This is Spanish Director Pedro Almodovar’s English-language debut. Campari suggests the classic Negroni as the drink pairing for this film. To make a Negroni mix:

  • 1 part (1 oz.) gin

  • 1 part (1 oz.) sweet vermouth

  • 1 part (1 oz.) Campari

  • Stir ingredients in a mixing glass with ice, strain into a chilled cocktail glass (or ice-filled double rocks glass) and garnish with orange twist.

For Spike Lee’s film of David Byrne’s acclaimed Broadway show – American Utopia, a reckoning of these dark times through music and togetherness, with a galvanizing rendition of Janelle Monáe’s “Hell You Talmbout” that’s destined to be one of the year’s most talked-about screen moments, Campari recommends making The Americano:

  • 1 part (1 oz.) Campari

  • 1 part (1 oz.) sweet vermouth

  • Splash of soda

  • Pour all the ingredients directly into an old-fashioned glass, fill with ice cubes, add a splash of soda water, garnish with orange slice or lemon peel.

Another must see film and cocktail pairing is The Truffle Hunters,an earthy documentary filmed in the forests of Northern Italy. Irascible elderly human owners accompany their dogs to seek a modest means of living by seeking out the precious white Alba truffle. Directed by Michael Dweck and Gregory Kershaw. Campari chose the Negroni Sbagliato for this film:

  • 1 part (1 oz, 3cl) Campari

  • 1 part (1 oz, 3cl) Red Vermouth

  • 1 part (top) Sparkling Wine

  • Build in a double rocks glass with ice. Garnish with a slice of orange.
