The Joy of Cooking A Valentine’s Dinner Paired With Rombauer Wines
Celebrating Valentine’s Day with a romantic dinner at home, Rombauer Vineyards 2022 Carneros Chardonnay is the ideal white wine to serve soups, pastas, salads, chicken and fish entrees.
Founders Koerner and Joan Rombauer celebrated their first vintage over 40 years ago in 1982. This bright wine features Rombauer’s memorable intense fruit flavors with balanced acidity. Displaying aromas of ripe yellow peach, melon, and chamomile aromas, the nectarine flavors follow with a hint of spice and lovely finish.
The Rombauer family believe that their Chardonnay pairs well with comforting winter recipes. Koerner’s great aunt is Irma Rombauer, the internationally renowned cookbook author of The Joy of Cooking. Their German ancestors had deep roots in the wine-growing region of Rheingau.
On the Rombauer Vineyards website some of her recipes are featured, and there is a wine pairing section that includes which wines are ideal to serve with her dishes.
For a simple and delicious quick dish, the team at Rombauer recommend Fettucine Alfredo. The pleasing cream sauce accentuates the Chardonnay wine’s acidity. Here is their recipe to make this special dish.
Ingredients
- 12 ounces of dried fettuccine (or whatever pasta of your choice)
- 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) butter
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup grated Parmesan (4 ounces)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Optional: Chicken, peas, prosciutto, and spinach
Step 1 – Cook pasta according to the direction on its container.
Step 2 – As the pasta cooks, melt butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Step 3 – When pasta is cooked, drain and add to skillet with heavy cream, Parmesan cheese, salt and pepper to taste. Toss over low heat until the pasta is well coated. Add additional ingredients you prefer in the skillet to enhance this dish.
Rombauer Chardonnay also goes well with an ethereal Butter chicken served with rice and heat scorched naan bread. Other recipes that will wow one’s heart and stomach is Coq au Vin.
If it’s a cold night, prepare a pot of warm Butternut Squash soup and serve a bowl with some crusty bread and Rombauer Chardonnay.
Founded in 1980, Koerner and Joan Rombauer, Rombauer Vineyards have been making award-winning wines produced in Napa Valley, Sonoma County, the Sierra Foothills and Santa Lucia Highlands.
