Vienna Hosts the Life Ball for AIDS Charity
The Life Ball, one of the world’s largest Aids charity events, will play out under the banner of Gold | Ver Sacrum | Santa Primavera | Sacre du Printemps this year. On May 16, 2015 festivities will kick off with a spectacular fashion show outside City Hall, followed by a huge party inside the building to generate funds for a range of Aids charity projects and raise awareness of the disease. Open to the public, the glittering opening ceremony on Rathausplatz attracts crowds of around 40,000 each year.
Gold will play a special role in the 2015 instalment of the legendary ball. Inspired by the ancient Ver Sacrum spring festival, the motto also references Jugendstil (Austrian Art Nouveau) and the work of the Secession movement spearheaded by Gustav Klimt. On May 15, the night before the Life Ball, Vienna’s legendary Burgtheater will host the Red Ribbon Celebration Concert, a charity gala that will see countless stars converge on the Austrian capital once again this year.
