Which UK holiday is right for me?

Which UK holiday is right for me?

Holidays abroad have taken a back seat during 2020, in fact a YouGov poll in July revealed that just 11 per cent of people in Britain had intentions to head overseas for a break. This change in behaviour has many looking to the UK for their annual holiday, so we’re here to help with choosing the type of break that’s right for you.

From culture-trippers and thrill-seekers to those in search of relaxation, here’s our run down of the best UK holidays.

Thrill-seeking adventures

There are plenty of people looking for a little high-octane action from their holiday – and they can do this in spades in the UK.

Surfers might feel at home in the many spots along the Cornish coastline, or even in Brighton. While those looking to try canyoning could head to Cumbria and North Wales has the fantastic Zip World which boasts adrenaline-filled activities such as zip wiring.

The Peak District is great for caving and those wanting to try potholing can do in places such as Gaping Gill in Yorkshire. There are so many activity holidays to choose from in the UK, no matter your interests.

Something for walkers

Whether you have a dog, or you love to walk with friends, family or a partner, the UK boasts fantastic destinations for walking holidays and this could be the perfect break for you.

You might need to ask yourself if you love the mountains, countryside or the coast first and this will help to dictate what kind of destination you search for.

Some of the best spots for walking in the UK include the Lake District, Peak District, Norfolk, the Scottish Highlands and a variety of places throughout Northern Ireland. The beauty is, no matter your location, you’re looking to find somewhere that has great walking trails and a fabulous luxury boutique hotel accommodations to rest your head…and feet!

Looking for relaxation?

Spa hotels across the country are waiting to welcome you, but where you choose to go all depends on your circumstances. If you’re a solo traveller searching for a bit of ‘me-time’ but would like somewhere to explore, you might opt for a city so you can head to independent cafes and quirky bookshops.

Alternatively, you might want a true escape and instead want something coastal or in the countryside so you can go walking. Whatever you need from your Zen escape, you’re likely to find a UK break and deal with a destination that’s perfect for your circumstances.

A faster pace?

Not everyone enjoys putting their foot on the brake when it comes to a holiday – as we’ve seen with the thrill-seekers. However, you might want to embrace fun and experience a buzz without zip wiring or surfing – so why not head for the bright lights of a city?

There tends to be lots to do in cities, from dining and drinking out to trying activities such as crazy golf, arcade games and heading to casinos. No matter your taste, there’s probably something for everyone in a city. You’ll discover that hotel deals are fantastic, too – they might include complimentary drinks, breakfast or even an evening meal.

Why not create a UK city bucket list and tick them off by taking long weekends exploring a new one each time you go?

How about a bit of culture?

Are you someone that enjoys discovering new things on your holidays? A cultural trip to a city or area in the UK could be exactly the thing you’re looking for. Cities ideally set up for this kind of adventure include Edinburgh, Bath, Oxford and Cambridge, but other cities such as London, Liverpool and Bristol are also fabulous places for culture.

Explore museums and galleries, join walking tours, discover street art, head to independent book shops and cinemas – learn all you can about the city and its history and you’ll finish your holiday feeling fulfilled.

We hope this article has helped you discover which type of holiday is right for you – whether you’re a thrill-seeker or love a bit of relaxation, there’s something for everyone with a UK break.
