The Hard Seltzer Cocktail Book [COCKTAIL TIME]
Hard seltzer is all the rage. The on-the-go cocktail in a can that can be found at bars, restaurants and the weekend get-together. It should come as no surprise that those premade cocktails are getting a twist. Author Casey Vogel has created The Hard Seltzer Cocktail Book, to simplify the process of how to concoct the best hard seltzer cocktails. We are sharing her Fizzier French 75 and Summer in the City Manhattan recipes as a teaser to this hot new title. Perfect as a hostess gift or buy now for a holiday stocking stuffer!
Fizzier French 75
Mixing sparkling white wine with hard seltzer doubles the bubbles when compared to the classic French 75. Use wine glasses instead of the traditional champagne flute, because you’ll need extra room for all the bubbles in this recipe!
MAKES 2 DRINKS
3 ounces gin
1 ounce lemon juice
1 ounce simple syrup (optional)
4 ounces prosecco or other sparkling white wine
1 (12-ounce) can lemon hard seltzer
lemon twists, for garnish
✦ Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup, if using. Shake until very cold.
✦ Fill two wine glasses with ice. Strain the mixture into the glasses.
✦ Top each glass with 2 ounces of prosecco and half a can (6 ounces) of seltzer. Stir briefly. Garnish each with a lemon twist.
The optional simple syrup is for those who like a little extra sweetness.
Summer in the City Manhattan
They say the original Manhattan was made with rye, but obviously we had to make some changes. Orange hard seltzer and bourbon work great here for a nice, sippable whiskey cocktail.
MAKES 2 DRINKS
1/4 cup bourbon
1 ounce sweet vermouth
2 dashes bitters (like Angostura)
1 (12-ounce) can orange hard seltzer
maraschino cherries, for garnish
✦ Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the bourbon, vermouth, bitters, and hard
seltzer. Mix.
✦ Strain into two glasses. Garnish each with a maraschino cherry
Cheers!
