How To Mix and Match Your Bikinis
Considering bikinis are often sold as a pair, with you getting a matching top and bottoms, it can sometimes be tough to mix and match them for the entire ensemble to still look stylish and sexy.
However, there are ways to do it and to do it well. These tips can help you take any top and any pair of bottoms and make them look like they were always meant to be together.
Prints
When it comes to mixing prints, the same rules apply to bikinis as those used for clothes. Prints can easily be matched if you note how loud and vibrant said prints are and then pair them accordingly.
For example, if you want a bright, exciting bikini top, bikini bottoms that have a more subtle and reserved pattern will work best, and vice versa. You aren’t trying to match the patterns exactly but rather trying to brighten up a reserved pattern with a louder one; the two will then even each other out.
Solids
There are a ton of options when it comes to mixing solids, as you can pair different tones, shades, and also opposites. The colour wheel is a very useful tool to see which colours work well together and which don’t.
For example, you can mix and match different shades of blue, green, and red. On the other hand, colours on the opposite side of the colour wheel also work, such as blues with oranges and greens with purples.
Solids & Prints
Mixing prints and solids is also much easier than you may think, as it is almost exactly the same as what you would do with clothing. If you have a bright, pattern-filled top, pair it with a neutral pair of bottoms.
Once again, use the colour wheel to see what will go together, but also experiment. If your top has hints of red, for example, carry the colour over to a pair of solid red bottoms.
Silhouettes
Mixing and matching aren’t limited to colours and patterns either; you can also play with silhouettes. The best way to do this is to consider the shape and coverage of each piece and pair them accordingly.
For example, a light coverage top with full coverage bottoms will look slightly strange as they are on opposite sides of the spectrum, whereas a good support top with full coverage bottoms is near enough to look like a set.
Theme
Pairing themes is another way to mix bikinis and is something we see in clothing all the time. When you look at prints, are they similar in shape and size, or are you trying to pair zig zags with florals?
The issue with the latter is that they look too different to be a pair, and unless you match them in the way described in the prints section, they will look out of place.
Colour Palette
finally, colour palette matching is something that has already been discussed. There is no need to match colours exactly, as you can match elements instead. You can be very experimental with this, as you can accentuate colours in multiple different ways.
How to Pick the Perfect Bikini
When it comes to choosing the perfect bikini, the most important aspect is the fit. The colour, pattern, and material can change, but finding the right fit is essential.
The Top
When choosing a top, there are three main types you will come across; light support, good support, and full support. Each of these fits will benefit different body types, shapes, and styles.
Light Support
You will most often picture a light support bikini top when you think about a bikini. It will either be a bandeau or triangular and offers the classic shape and silhouette of a bikini.
While it can be a great option for most bust sizes, it tends to work best for smaller busts, as they tend not to have the same support and structure as other tops.
Good Support
Good support tops are another brilliant option for those with small to medium-sized busts, as they offer a bit more support than their light support counterparts. Crop-top style tops and tops with adjustable shoulder straps fall into the good support range.
Full-Support
A full-support top is precisely what it says on the can. Designed for those with larger busts, it provides the support and coverage you need to remain comfortable throughout the day. These types of tops will often have wider, adjustable shoulder straps, as well as an under-bust of some kind.
What is great about full-support tops is even though they are designed for a more niche clientele, they still come in a wide range of shapes of designs suited for almost every body type.
The Bottoms
When it comes to bottoms, the options vary depending on how much skin you want to show and how comfortable a particular style and shape is. The three typical choices are skimpy, good, and full coverage.
Skimpy Coverage
Skimpy coverage bikini bottoms, like the light support tops, are the typical style of bikini bottoms. They off the coverage you need while still showing off some skin. They are also found with tie-sides, allowing you to adjust the shape and fit to either sit higher or lower.
Good Coverage
Good coverage bottoms are the perfect go-to bottoms for most people. They offer a decent amount of coverage and are super comfortable and flattering, but you will still feel sexy and can show off a bit when you are wearing them.
Full Coverage
Full coverage bottoms aren’t entirely dissimilar to good coverage bottoms and are often a similar shape and fit. However, they offer a bit more coverage and are perfect for those who want to wear a bikini but want something a bit more reserved.
As you can see, mixing and matching bikinis is not only easy, but there are so many options and variations that you will be able to create something new every time you buy a new one.
