Seeing Hearts and Ranunculus in Carlsbad
Carlsbad in Northern San Diego is offering some fun Valentine’s Weekend specials that include self-care, romantic dinners, wine and chocolate. Then starting March 1, the beach community displays acres of rainbow colored blooming ranunculus in the Flower Fields. These flowers inspire nearby hotels and resorts to creatively offer food and beverage specials throughout the Spring season.
Barrio Glassworks has made 50 beautiful hand-blown glass hearts for the Carlsbad Village Association. During Valentine’s Weekend (Feb. 12 and Feb. 13), these beautiful hearts will be placed throughout Carlsbad Village. “Follow Your Heart” to find and and it is yours to keep. They are visible on walking or local bike paths, near downtown murals and historic sites.
At the Cassara Carlsbad, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, perched on 12 acres overlooking a kaleidoscope of flowers and an expansive Carlsbad coastline, the modern Mediterranean design appeals to families checking into the two-bedroom Karlsbad Suites. These spacious rooms offer a room with two comfortable twin beds, a separate King bed guest room, sitting area, bathroom, and three flat-screen televisions.
At check-in get your room key and head over to the Cassara Carlsbad lobby bar for a special Hibiscus Sour. It’s a specialty cocktail inspired by the Flower Fields that is crafted with Cali Fino Blanco tequila, grapefruit juice, Aquafaba, a splash of lemon juice, agave nectar, bitter-hibiscus syrup and topped with a lemon twist. Take one outside to gazing over the vast fields and watch the sun set.

Onsite is a Karl Strauss Brewing Company restaurant offering indoor and outdoor dining. The menu features an eclectic mix of beers brewed on site alongside award-winning Karl Strauss craft beer and food.
The daily Daily Mandatory Urban Destination Charge will be added to the room rate and includes: Premium guest internet access; daily $20 food and beverage credit for use in all hotel outlets; daily one hour bike rental per room.
Just up the hill are two sister properties the Westin Carlsbad Resort & Spa, celebrates Valentine’s Day with a special spa treatment at Ocean Pearl Spa. From full body exfoliations and hot oil massages to reef sugar scrubs, book a signature treatment in February and receive $30 off. All specials include use of the spa facilities including the steam room, relaxation lounge and resort pool and jacuzzi.
Afterwards enjoy a romantic sunset dinner at 20|Twenty on Valentine’s Day. The $85 prix-fixe menu includes port braised short ribs, pan seared sea bass and a strawberry balsamic pavlova. Diners receive a s’mores takeaway kit to roast by the hotel’s flickering firepits.
Later in March, the Westin Carlsbad Resort & Spa and family-friendly Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa offer a Spring 2022 Package. Starting on March 1 through May 8, guests who book the Spring Package will receive two tickets to The Flower Fields to walk among the ranunculus; free one hour bike rental to ride around Carlsbad; and free shuttle to and from The Flower Fields (based on availability).
In celebration of the blooming fields, 20|Twenty at the Westin Carlsbad Resort & Spa will be offering a special spring dining experience. Guests can sip on a Lavender Blossom Fizz made with Venom Vodka, lavender infused syrup, lemon juice, and top it off with sparkling wine and orange blossom water spritz. They are also making a Hibiscus Sour Cocktail crafted with Cali Fino Blanco tequila, grapefruit juice, Aquafaba, a splash of lemon juice, agave nectar, bitter-hibiscus syrup that is served with a lemon twist. Menu items for diners include Hibiscus Baja ceviche featuring a local striped bass, avocado, cucumber, citrus, tomato, and plantain chips with a hibiscus.
