The Best Holidays for Adrenaline Junkies
While some people might like to go on holiday to lounge around and relax, there are plenty out there who prefer to get the blood pumping.
Recent figures suggest that 13% of all holidaying Brits either take to an adventure holiday or somewhere in mountainous surroundings – the perfect spot to raise the heart rate.
So where are the best places to go if you’re a thrill-seeker? We took a look at some of the best closer to home and further afield.
Wing walking – UK
Wing walking experiences are available across the country and are the perfect gift for someone you know that likes to take risks. Strapped onto the wings of a bi-plane as it takes off, flies through the air, and maybe even performs a loop-the-loop, wing walking is certainly a unique way to take in the sights of the UK!
Safari – Africa
Safari experiences exist all over the world, but for the most genuine experience, you’re best off heading to the natural habitat of your favourite animals. If you’re looking to go in search of the ‘Big Five’ – lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo – heading to South Africa, perhaps at the world-famous Kruger Park, will give you the chance to get amongst the animals in their homeland, an experience sure to raise the pulse!
Hiking – South America
If you’re a seasoned hiker and want to truly push yourself, while also experience a mesmeric portion of human history, the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu might be an ideal next holiday. Passing through the Andes mountains in contrasting forest and tundra surrounds, arrival at the Sun Gate on Machu Picchu mountain will put you truly at one with yourself.
Skywalk – China
Head to Guangdong on China’s south coast for an experience like few others on the city’s glass Skywalk. Spanning the Qingyuan valley, the glass bridge is 202 metres long and is not for the faint-hearted! Some of the glass panels might ‘crack’ when you walk over them, but don’t panic – this is merely a somewhat cold-hearted prank by the bridge’s designers!
Running with the bulls – Spain
The most famous such festival is held annually in Pamplona in northern Spain, but similar events are held across the country, as well as in Portugal and Mexico. During the ‘run’ several bulls will be released into the street and encouraged to charge around, with those brave enough to get close running alongside or in front of the racing beasts.
Diving – Australia
Dare you take to the water in a ‘Cage of Death’? Swimming with crocodiles, sharks and other dangerous predators is possible by being submersed in a cage – but do you have the nerve to get up and close with creatures that could cause you serious harm? It’s not for everyone!
Indeed, adrenaline holidays might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you are a true thrill-seeker, hopefully we’ve offered a bit of inspiration for your next break away.
