Four Seasons Hualalai Magical Moments

Four Seasons Hualalai Magical Moments

Renting a convertible mustang at the Kona International Airport to drive to the Four Seasons Hualalai, we admired the dramatic black lava landscape on the way to Hawaii’s Big Island most luxurious hotel.

Located on the site of an ancient fishing village, the reception lobby offers an authentic Hawaiian feel with broad wood overhangs, exposed eaves, and Mahogany, koa, bamboo, and teak woods that elevate the exterior and interior.

Upon check-in, we received a traditional Hawaiian lei and icy cold beverage before being led to our ocean view guest room. We learned that in 2020, the resort underwent a multi-million dollar refresh and renovation to rooms, pools and restaurants.

Guest rooms are two story Hawaiian-style post-and-beam bungalows. Built in a crescent shape, this allows every guest to have spectacular pool and ocean views.

Suites range in size from 1,050 square feet for up to three guests to 1,441 square feet. There are three private villas with their own private pool. It’s an ideal family Airbnb alternative. The two-story villas range in size from 3,740 square feet to 5,253 square feet.

Our upper-level guest room featured a large balcony with views of the Palm Grove pool and ocean beyond. The king size bed was fitted with luxury sheets and a native Hawaiian quilt. There was a large walk-in closet near the granite bathroom with a full soaking tub and shower. Beautiful black and beige Hawaiian style bathrobes hung on hooks for us to use during our stay.

SEEING TURTLES

Taking a walk to explore the grounds, we sat in comfortable lounge chairs on the golden sand beach and noticed what looked like a rock slowly moving out of the water. Looking closer we realized it was a large green sea turtle making its way onto land to bask in the warm Hawaiian sun. This was one of many magical moments we experienced staying at the Four Seasons Hualalai.

DINING

Another magical experience was dining at the new Miller & Lux Hualalai restaurant by Celebrity Chef Tyler Florence. Overlooking the Hualalai Golf Course’s 18th green, the curated menu focuses on high-quality steaks, raw bar items, his famous popovers, fresh and sustainable seafood, and farm-direct vegetables. A knowledgeable wine steward offered pairing suggestions from an array of hand-selected wines and seasonal cocktails to complement our meal.

Underneath the restaurant is the Kaʻupulehu Cultural Center, a place for guest to learn more about Hawaiian culture and history. Aunties and Uncles share their knowledge while leading programs and lessons throughout the week. Guests can learn how to play the ukulele, how to hula dance and make pretty and fragrant leis.

‘ULU Ocean Grill + Sushi Lounge is a wonderful spot in the morning for brunch with its extensive array of buffet items, fresh juices and pastries. At sunset this waterfront venue becomes an elegant restaurant for guests sit outside to watch the traditional blowing of the conch shell and lighting of the tiki torches. Since ancient times, this symbolic event still carries sacred meaning in Hawaiian culture today.

POOL TIME

There are 8 swimming pools and whirlpools in different sections of the resort. The King’s Pond and Kumu Kai Marine Center is the most magical pool. Guests can snorkel in a carved natural lava rock that is an 1.8-million-gallon “aquarium”. It’s filled with over 1,000 tropical fish and marine life. Pool staff and Natural Resource team members are happy to issue snorkeling gear and educate guests about the eagle ray and colorful fish of all sizes. Attend one of the scheduled feedings to learn more about the creatures that live in this calm pool.

This is also where Hualalai’s newest infinity King’s Pond Crescent pool located. This new elevated experience is directly above the swimmable King’s Pond. Lounge chairs are situated on the wrap-around pool deck for panoramic views of King’s Pond and the expansive ocean beyond.
