This past winter, I was lucky enough to indulge my Moroccan fantasy and spend a day and night in this extravagant place. After arriving in Marrakech and spending time in the heart of the city, I began my journey, an eight-hour trip. At my hotel, I met the guide, who would lead me into the desert with his camels, and eventually to Jaimas Madu.
Once arriving at the campsite, I was welcomed with refreshing Moroccan tea, an exquisite traditional dinner, music of the tam-tam drums and a set of Moroccan carpets, where I could relax and enjoy the peace and quiet that surrounded me. As the golden sand dunes of the Sahara Desert were ever rolling, I could see miles into the distance.
Jamias Madu is equipped with eight Berber tent rooms with either a king, queen or twin-size bed. The property encompasses suite-style bathrooms with hot water, as well as a restaurant, a garden, a bar and a terrace–all under the endless illuminating sky.
The sand dunes of the Erg Chebbi create a magical experience where one can climb to enjoy a breathtaking sunrise or sunset–and then slide down the dunes by sand-boarding, sand-sledding or simply running.
After a fun night of tasty food, delicious drinks and traditional Berber dancing, I found myself stargazing for hours under a spectacular view of the Milky Way. I could feel the powerful energy of nature drawing me into connecting with myself and the simplicity around me. It was in that moment that I realized I was achieving what the Berber culture wants most for their guests to experience: to slow down.
