Key dates to be aware of for this year’s Oktoberfest—the ultimate German institution include:

  • The Parade of Landlords and Breweries officially kicks off Oktoberfest 2024, with Mayor Dieter Reiter opening the festival on September 21st at 12 o’clock sharp. The 189th. Munich Oktoberfest will open with the Mayor tapping the first barrel of beer in the Schottenhamel Festhalle.
  • Thousands of folklorists dressed in traditional German dress parade through Munich city center on September 22nd. This hugely impressive, traditional procession has always taken place on the first Sunday of Oktoberfest since 1950 and is a highlight in the Oktoberfest calendar.
  • The Oktoberfest church service in the Marstall festival tent on September 25th. Aimed at festival workers, visitors are also invited to join in the celebration to pray for a peaceful Oktoberfest together.
  • The musical highlight of the month – the Oktoberfest landlords’ concert takes place on the second Sunday – September 29th. The bands of all the festival tents will play together from 11 a.m. and offer visitors a unique concert with over 300 musicians, completely free of charge!
  • The grand finale on October 6th, with the traditional gun salutes at the Bavaria. Experience the custom gunshots at midday at the foot of the Bavaria statue, followed by celebrations late into the evening.
