Beaches to visit in the UK this summer

Why are people holidaying at the beach?

There is nothing more magical when growing up than a trip to the seaside. Walks along the beach, big ice creams, crabbing, eating fish and chips; UK beaches have it all and it seems this summer that UK beach holidays are back in fashion. Besides the fact that travel abroad is restricted at the moment, UK citizens are falling back in love with the classic British seaside getaway and, looking at this list of places to visit, it’s not hard to see why.

Beaches to visit in the UK

Sennen Cove – Cornwall

If you like to surf, Sennen Cove is the place to be. Visit Cornwall suggests there are top rated surfing conditions, making it a hub for like-minded surfer enthusiasts. Apart from surfing, Sennen village offers a quaint fishing village atmosphere with lovely local amenities to explore and enjoy.

Southwold – Suffolk

Well known for its brightly coloured huts along the beach front, Southwold is proper taste of traditional UK beach holidays. Whether you are picking up a coffee from one of their artisan coffee houses or exploring their unique shops, Southwold caters for everyone looking for a break with a pop of colour and style. Top tip: be sure to arm yourself with a polo shirt and shorts because the weather can reach some incredible temperatures.

Blackpool Sands – Devon

A drive through beautiful woodland brings you to South Devon’s hidden gem, Blackpool Sands. Named as one of the best beaches in the UK, Blackpool Sand’s offers a breath-taking stretch of smooth pebbled beach and a view of astonishingly clear water (no surprise it has won awards for cleanliness too). At the back end of the beach is the Venus Café, serving sustainably sourced seafood and local produce – a must try!

Shell Bay, Studland – Dorset

The sandy beaches and clear waters of Shell Bay are known to be a tropical haven (when the English weather allows). Shell Bay doesn’t conform with the stereotypical UK beach getaway. It doesn’t have shops, ice cream vans or children running around – it is pure peace. With long stretches of untouched beach, if you are wanting a peaceful escape away from reality, then Shell Bay may be for you.

Holkham Beach – Norfolk

Holkham Beach is an unspoilt, beautiful stretch of sand and sea and was recently voted ‘Best Beach in the UK’ in a survey of travel writers. This may be due to its unique landscape protected by Holkham National Nature Reserve. Home to rare species of flora and fauna, Holkham Beach is a joy for anyone who loves to be at one with wildlife. As well as this, there are a multitude of different walks you can do along the seafront, allowing you to explore as much of this pocket of heaven as you can manage.
