Seattle has a SEA for SHE campaign empowering women to build a community that cultivates growth and strength. It’s proud to be an inclusive city and showcases the women who are making a difference in Seattle and the world. I learned that 40% of Seattle businesses are women-owned. That is more than any other U.S. city.

The current exhibits include ‘Designing Motherhood: Things That Make and Break Our Births’. This exhibit features over 200 objects and examines the evolution of rights and societal norms connected to contraception, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experiences over the last 150 years. It highlights how birth and culture impacts every living person.
Exhibit tours and discussions are led at 2 p.m. There are plenty of opportunities to discover ways to take action on causes that you care about.
Another strong female from Seattle is three-time Grammy award-winning singer and songwriter Brandi Carlile. As part of the LGBTQ community, Brandi speaks out about addiction, immigration and bullying.
Seattle’s soccer sweetheart is Megan Rapinoe, player and captain of Reign FC. She is also the Women’s National Soccer League team of the Greater Seattle area and two time FIFA Women’s World Cup champion. Megan is an activist, and a philanthropist supporting equality for women and the LGBTQ community.
The current Board Chair of Special Olympics Washington is Kelly Campbell. She resides in northeast Seattle’s Lake City neighborhood and has been participating as a Special Olympics athlete for more than 30 years. The sports she competes in are softball, basketball, golf, and bowling.
