Seattle’s SEA for SHE Empowers Women

Seattle’s SEA for SHE Empowers Women

Seattle has a SEA for SHE campaign empowering women to build a community that cultivates growth and strength. It’s  proud to be an inclusive city and showcases the women who are making a difference in Seattle and the world. I learned that 40% of Seattle businesses are women-owned. That is more than any other U.S. city.

One of the most inspiring women from Seattle is Melinda Gates, Co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Headquartered in Seattle, visit the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Discovery Center in the Seattle Center to see how the Gates seek to improve equity in the U.S. and around the world. Melinda Gates works to empower women and girls, helping to transform the health and prosperity of families, communities and societies.

Visitors can enter and explore the venue to see interactive global health innovations and exhibits. Read and hear about powerful stories about communities rising above poverty, disease, and inequity around the world.

The current exhibits include ‘Designing Motherhood: Things That Make and Break Our Births’. This exhibit features over 200 objects and examines the evolution of rights and societal norms connected to contraception, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experiences over the last 150 years. It highlights how birth and culture impacts every living person.

Another strong female from Seattle is three-time Grammy award-winning singer and songwriter Brandi Carlile. As part of the LGBTQ community, Brandi speaks out about addiction, immigration and bullying.
