Weddings, Embracing Big Style Once Again, Turn To Luxury

The necessity of restricting headcounts meant that weddings throughout 2021 and 2022 have been smaller and more intimate. According to industry authority Brides, this is one trend set to change, as massive parties and big white weddings become the hallmark of the day once again. With more cash in the pocket and more friends and family allowed along, this is a predictable change. With big weddings comes big luxury, too, and from the ring, to the gown, to the venue, parties across the world are embracing what it really means to have a luxury big day.

The wedding ring, and engagement for that matter, are an area where a lot of money is typically splashed. For good reason – nothing will last as long in the memory quite like the ring on the finger. Celebrities have long led the way in showing this off, and Town And Country Mag highlights one celebrity couple like no other – J Lo and Ben Affleck – as a great example of that. Pairing a huge heart-shaped emerald engagement ring with a white gold wedding band, the power couple really did show what it meant to have luxury sitting on the finger. It also shows an interesting combination of engagement and wedding ring styles. The engagement ring was quite loud, and even brash, with the sheer size of the gem; a real standout piece; but simple, too. All of that luxury was contained in the gem. By contrast, the joyful simplicity of the wedding band spoke to an understated class.

Wedding dresses have shown that same trend – that luxury can be both understated and ostentatious. As Harper’s Bazaar highlights, three recent wedding gowns have shown the sheer variety on offer. In Kourtney Kardashian, the combination of a beautiful long veil, embroidered in flowers and with the face of the Virgin Mary, covering a lingerie-style Dolce and Gabbana minidress. J Lo wore something in the middle, a feathered Ralph Lauren gown; and then Daphne Groeneveld married in a simple, yet timeless, Galia Lahav satin number. All three demonstrate luxury in very different ways, providing inspiration as well as the nod of approval for brides-to-be.

 

When it comes to venues, size and elegance have marked the luxury market this year. In a review of some of the north-east’s best venues – a wedding hotspot in the USA – Forbes noted a few clear trends. Pocono Palms, PA, ties in luxury from an ancient, all-American perspective, a secluded and intimate setting. Whiteface Lodge, NY, is more palatial in its nature, a grand country home, giving a real sense of high society living. Topnotch Resort, VT, brings both together, using the rustic conversion of an old barn to give real character and brand-new, 21st century luxury.

 

What the trends in luxury weddings show is that high-end taste can be constructed for any background. Couples with a wide set of tastes and design preferences can craft the perfect day regardless.
