California Wine Country Fun for the Non-Drinkers

Award-winning VJB Cellars in Kenwood, California is the perfect place to take a friend or loved one who enjoys great food and good company but not necessarily wine!

Non-wine drinkers can enjoy a beautiful visit to wine country at VJB Vineyard & Cellars which was created as a gathering place for all.  Located in downtown Kenwood, in the heart of Sonoma County wine country, a visit to VJB is akin to enjoying an afternoon in a bustling piazza in Italy. From the outdoor wood burning pizza oven and live opera music on weekends to the sweet little gelato and chocolate shop, there is something for everyone.

While its sometimes tough to find even a piece of bread while wine tasting, the La Cucina menu at VJB offers food lovers an array of choices like flatbreads, seasonal salads, and grilled specialty panini featuring everything from prosciutto to house-made meatballs. Co-owner and Executive Chef at VJB, Maria Belmonte, makes her sauces and array of pasta shapes right at the winery for guests to take home. While many might import pasta and then put their label on it, they take care to make and dry the pasta themselves, right at the winery. They also produce their own extra virgin olive oil, pull their own mozzarella and crush their own tomatoes.

The specialty food store at VJB is a perfect place to gather items for a wine country picnic, and while shopping Maria’s husband Vittorio makes a great cappuccino at the coffee bar. Enjoy a gelato or chocolate treat from the sweet little shop off the square and live opera music from “the Tenors” every Saturday and Sunday afternoon starting the last weekend in April.

Red Rooster Pizzeria in the VJB piazza is a local’s favorite and a destination for visitors with its menu featuring wood-fired pizzas, calzones, ribs and pulled pork, all enjoyed on the piazza with a glass of VJB wine, Italian soda or bubbly water.

“Red Rooster is without a doubt one of the finest purveyors of pizza in Sonoma County,” said the Robert Parker Wine Journal.
