Cryotherapy Should Be Your Body’s Luxury for 2022, Says iCRYO Exec

One of the biggest trends for 2022 is cryotherapy, whose market is valued at around $3.8 billion.

With 2022 underway and the world still navigating through the new variations of the COVID-19 pandemic, our mental health and wellbeing is an utmost priority. Believe it or not, living through a global pandemic does take a toll on your body, particularly your skincare, which is why your New Year’s resolution should be prioritizing your skincare routine and ensuring your body is operating at full capacity.

One of the biggest trends for 2022, which grew extremely popular last year is cryotherapy. Originating in Japan in the 1980’s, cryotherapy was soon adopted into physiotherapy recovery for injured athletes before being utilized in skincare procedures in the mid-90’s.

As of 2020, the global cryotherapy market is valued at around $3.8 billion, and is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.3% through 2028.

Over the last 40 years, it has evolved into rehabilitation clinics, physical therapy clinics, and sports training centers all over the world. Its advancements in the medical wellness field have pushed it to be a household name and daily lifestyle service for millions of people.

Kyle Jones, COO of iCRYO, America’s fastest growing cryotherapy franchises in the United States, sat down with Luxe Beat Magazine to break down cryotherapy for the everyday consumer to understand.

Jones, who was an athlete during most of his adolescence, started transitioning his focus from being an athlete to understanding how the industry prioritizes recovery, launching iCRYO immediately upon graduating with his father, Bill, who serves as the company’s chief executive officer.

Headquartered in Houston, Texas, iCRYO offers cryotherapy IV infusions and additional wellness services to the communities they are located in, including a turnkey franchise system for business owners. With a physical presence in over 7 states, including Texas, New York, Ohio, Florida, Connecticut, Indiana, and North Carolina, iCRYO just opened its newest location in South Carolina.

“The average consumer is becoming more educated about what’s good, what’s bad, and what’s a fad,” Jones told Luxe Beat Magazine.

What is Cryotherapy?

Whole body cryotherapy is used to treat the reduction of inflammation in the entire body, where the individual enters a full walk-in chamber that they spend roughly 3 minutes inside at extremely cold temperatures of around -150°F.

Unlike ice or an ice bath, the dry cold provides a cold, but comfortable feeling during the session. The cold, ambient air inside of the chamber is decreasing the skin temperature, rather than the body’s core temperatures, which stimulates the Vagus nerve – the largest central communication tool in the body.

When stimulating the Vagus nerve, your body registers one of two responses:

  • Fight or flight mode

This activates the sympathetic nervous system and tells your body to be awake and alert. This basically gives your body a good endorphin release along with mental clarity and energy qualities.

  • Rest or Digest mode

Or, it will activate the parasympathetic nervous systems in a “rest or digest” mode, which enables your body and mind to relax and shut down to be in a resting state.

At the end of the day, cryotherapy is a non-invasive total wellness modality that addresses stress, anxiety, depression, focus, soreness, injury, skin disorders, anti-aging qualities, and more.

Don’t Be Afraid of the Cold

Jones explained to us how the cryotherapy sessions work for any individual looking to get started.

“Upon entering into an iCRYO location, you are given a quick tour of services to explain what we offer and some of the benefits of each service, filling out a standard waiver. Once the waiver is signed, the company provides you with all the necessary clothing you need during the session, including gloves, socks, slippers, undergarments, robes, and a mask.

Before entering into the cryo unit, your temperature is taken to gauge what a successful session would look like, with every guest starting at the beginner level for their first time.”

Bottom Line

What we can expect to see in 2022 is cryotherapy becoming widely utilized as part of consumer skincare routine. With platforms like TikTok giving rise to facial icing and now facial cryotherapy, it’s almost certain that consumers will begin to think differently about maintaining their complexion and rejuvenating themselves as we further tackle the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 pandemic.
