Four 90’s Fashion Trends That Are Here to Stay

After what has felt like a never-ending winter, it’s finally time to bring out the spring to summer looks in which we’re ready to be jetting off to some sunny destinations again finally. One of the highlights of this season’s trends and of the AW22 Fashion week were all of the 90’s trends that are making a comeback. From cropped cardigans to knee high socks and leather chokers, we’ve seen it all and we’re delighted for what’s in store.

Below, we’ll take a look at the top four 90’s fashion trends that are making a huge comeback this season.

Metallic

While metallic styles were once reserved for the Christmas and New Year’s Eve looks, we are delighted that metallic has appeared in the latest Spring to Summer ranges for a number of top brands, including Fendi, Burberry and Michael Kors to name a few. In their latest season reveals, these brands have released some iconic styles, from all-in-one metallic jumpsuits to sheer dresses with delicate front cut-outs, hooded dresses and flared metallic trousers.

A favourite piece is the metallic jumpsuit released in Michael Kors latest spring to summer range and as seen on Gigi Hadid recently. This seamless piece with flared hems brought out Hadid’s sultry silhouette at the CFDA Fashion Awards. The versatile trend can go from daytime dazzling to evening glamour at the drop of a hat and we’re so glad this trend has made its way back for the height of spring.

90’s Prep

Think Clueless where Alicia Silverstone rocked the knitted preppy sweater sets as shallow, rich and socially successful Cher, or even Mean Girls where this girl group ruled the hallways, 90’s prep is back and makes it so much easier to put together an outfit.

Think tweed miniskirts with the matching jacket in bright spring colours like green and pink to bring out that springtime look, while keeping it chic but casual. Inspired by the likes of Princess Dianna, this look was made classic by those who went to prep and Ivy League schools, where polo shirts, Brooks Brothers button downs and Lady Levi’s became a classic.

Now, just 20 years later, we’re seeing this trend re-emerge in the latest ranges from Chloe, Michael Kors and Burberry to name a few in which the iconic preppy pieces are looking chicer than ever.

Lexy T-Shirts

Third on the list is the classic plain t-shirt. Think back to the era of Friends when Monica rocked a white t-shirt with some simple flared denim for an effortless style. We’re glad that classic Lexi t-shirts are making a comeback as they make it so easy to put an outfit together.

Think classic boyfriend or flared jeans with a simple white t-shirt for a real classic look. Pair this with some simple converse and an over the shoulder bag for a casual daytime look, or switch so some heels and a leather jacket with sunglasses for a chic evening look.

Flesh Flashing

While some may look on in horror, the trend of flesh flashing is back. With Euphoria’s 90’s vibes, Generation Z particularly cannot get enough of this look at the moment in which we saw the trend everywhere at AW22. This trend is all about flesh flashing crop tops, skimpy miniskirts and sheer elements that offer a playful but sexy look.

Spotted wearing this look at AW22 were Supriya Lele, Conner Ives & Poster Girl – as well as 16Arlington and Nensi Dojaka, who all effortlessly pulled off the look, Overall, while there were some questionable looks from the 90’s, it seems that only the best has been making their way back this season, offering the perfect base to build your Spring to Summer 2022 look.
