My name is Lucas Beaufort, I’m a French dreamer living surrounded by beautiful monsters.
My life is driven by the idea of living the life I want to live with my own rules.
So I chase all my dreams and crazy ideas as an epicurean who wants to try everything.
My mind is unlimited and will always continue to spread love all around the world.
Lucas Beaufort was born in Cannes, France in 1981. He is a French visionary artist-painter living in a world surrounded by imaginary characters, kind but mischievous monsters, who help him build a positive image on the world and guide his choices every day.
I heard about Mr. Beaufort’s live art exhibition at the Zetta Hotel (February 18, 2022, 6 PM – 9:30 PM) and was intrigued. He granted Luxe Beat this interview and it was a pleasure learning more about this French artist and what inspires his work. This skateboarder turned article, can be found around the world, painting live exhibitions. He is building his brand beyond the canvas. He collaborates with brands like Burton, Big Brauther and Vans, making his work accessible to the masses.
His medium of choice: Acrylic paint & brushes
I (have) always been into acrylic paint and brushes, traditional way works the best for way. It dries fast and I need to work fast so I can make sure I don’t get bored.
Artists that inspire his work:
I personally love Geoff Mcfetridge as a contemporary artist and Fernand Legér is without a doubt my whole time favorite.
His own favorite piece:
My favorite piece is the gigantic mural I made in Montreal in 2018. It’s my biggest piece so far (80×80 feet) and it’s all about my iconic character called Gus Gus dancing with everybody.
Transformational art experience:
This experience of painting the mural in Montreal was epic because I’m actually scared of heights. Once I got to the top I was terrified and I couldn’t stand up, I had to take pills to relax and make it happen! it was insane!
Artwork to see on his bucket list:
It would be the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican. It’s simply the most impressive painting ever and I would love to see it for real.
His creative truth:
Do what you think is good for you and work harder than ever. Be curious and explore the world.
His work in progress:
I’m currently in California preparing may art projects and painting large murals in different places from Los Angeles to San Francisco. I’m also about to release my new book celebrating 40 years of skate shops’ history called Heart. It will be release in April this year.
Late to the painting party…or right on time?
I started to paint very late, I think I was 27 years old. It came out of the blue, one day I took a piece of paper and drew something for my brother. Five years later I was able to make a living with my art and I started to travel all around the world to promote my art. I love to say that making art is an excuse to meet discover the world and meet new people.
Most recent challenge as an artist:
Not being able to travel during COVID was a challenge for sure. I used to take 100 flights a year so it was like being in Jail, kind of. After a while, I took the opportunity to explore France, where I live and I loved it.
Rewarding aspect of being an artist:
I feel like I live the life I want to live. Being your own boss is the best feeling ever.
One quality that is key in succeeding in today’s creative landscape:
I say it again but to be curious is the key. I got so many messages through Instagram and I read everything. You’ll be surprised for sure hahah.
Artist he would most like to meet:
It would be Felipe Pantone for sure. I’d love to know what’s going on in his head and also curious to explore his process. His art is just incredible !
Advice for other artists about what he’s learned on his journey:
Connect with other people as much as you can and open your world to others. Stronger Together is my number one motto.
Recommendation for those new to art:
Don’t judge at first sight, try to go beyond what you see. A red dot in the middle of a canvas is probably more than that.
Thoughts on live art performance:
I love to perform live for sure. I do that all the time. I’ll have one at Zetta hotel in San Francisco February 18th 6 to 9.30 pm.
Biggest “WOW!” moment in his career:
I would say that everything that I have been able to live is important for me. I feel like my life is an adventure which will end when I’ll be dead.
Dreams of the future…
I would love to open a restaurant where artists and chef will create together! Stay tuned!
