Getting your Nails Done Professionally and Safely This Summer
2020 has not thus far, been a great year for the nation’s manicurists – or their customers. If your nails were in dire need of attention in March, April, or May, then you would probably have been forced to address the problem yourself. Fortunately, many of us will have been housebound during this period, and so the results will not have been quite so embarrassing.
But now that the lock-down has eased, and we are able to flaunt our fingers in public, it’s time to head back down to the local nail salon. Provided that they have put the right precautions in place, this shouldn’t be too much of an issue. COVID-19 is, after all, transmitted through the moisture we exhale and inhale, not directly from one finger to another.
So, what should we consider before deciding that it’s safe to visit a particular nail salon?
Reputation
If a particularly nail-salon is taking a lax approach to safety, then you might get wind of it simply by asking around. Established businesses have a reputation to preserve and won’t want to send out a message that they’re endangering their customers. Another approach might be to simply show up and peer through the window. If there are face masks, gloves and hand sanitizer on display, then it’s a good sign. Of course, you’ll also want to take these precautions yourself.
Face Masks
Masks are pretty effective in preventing water-bound viruses from passing from one person’s mouth into another. If you are wearing one, and your manicurist is wearing one, then you’re probably not going to catch COVID-19 even in the unlikely event that they’re contagious. With that said, not all face masks are created equal, so it’s worth doing a little bit of research to ensure that you’re really protecting yourself.
Hand Sanitizer
A good salon will probably provide you with some hand-sanitizer to use immediately afterwards. That way you’re sure to be safe even if you reach for your face. To be safe, it’s worth bringing along your own.
Preparation
Of course, you will need to put in a little bit of groundwork yourself if you’re going to get the best from your new nails. Most salons use top quality acrylic nail kits, but the results you get will depend on the health of the underlying nail. You can buy over-the-counter oils which purport to strengthen nails, but what’s more important is allowing them the time to recover.
