Dickinson’s Witch Hazel: Experts Make it New Again!

DICKINSON’S WITCH HAZEL SKINCARE has been around a very long time. This family-owned company has been a consumer beauty favorite since 1866.

When I was a teen and my only spending money came from poorly paid babysitting jobs, witch hazel was my only beauty product, applied after I washed my face. As I got older, I moved up to pricier, “fancier” skincare. So imagine my surprise when I found that witch hazel, which never disappeared, is making a big comeback.

Now skincare experts are telling us more about this classic.witch hazel

Dermatologist Dr. Kavita Marawalla states that:

  • Toner can be used on all skin types–even dry skin–to eliminate excess oil, calm breakouts, unclog and refine pores, and smooth complexion, everything summer-related. (Witch hazel toners contain conditioning properties that help maintain the skin’s moisture balance and help to calm skin.)

  • When looking to use a toner that won’t dry your skin out, choose a toner enhanced with rosewater, along with other moisturizing ingredients such as witch hazel, to soothe irritation and to keep your skin feeling hydrated and smooth. She recommends Dickinson’s Enhanced Witch Hazel Hydrating Toner with Rosewater for those looking for a toner with these properties.

  • For those who have normal skin, Dr. Mariwalla recommends Dickinson’s Original Witch Hazel Pore Perfecting Toner as it removes everyday dirt, oil, and impurities without over-drying the skin.

As for using witch hazel under before applying makeup, Makeup Artist Allyson Wisel had this to say:

  • Prepping your skin for makeup ensures that it goes on evenly and the better our skin looks, to begin with, the better your makeup will look.

  • The first step is to cleanse the skin and then use one of Dickinson’s toners that is right for your skin type before applying makeup.

  • Toners remove any last traces of makeup, dirt, and impurities stuck in your pores after you wash your face. Using a toner will unclog your pores, give a protective layer and moisturize the skin, which helps your makeup stay put and look fresh.

What especially impressed me: All Dickinson’s products are made with 100% pure witch hazel that goes through a proprietary distillation process. Dickinson’s only uses hand-harvested witch hazel as the first ingredient in their exclusive clean formulas.

The twigs and bark of the witch hazel plant contain therapeutic constituents that when distilled create a clear, fragrant, natural astringent that Dickinson’s has been known for through many generations. Dickinson’s is truly a green company and uses every part of the witch hazel plant harvested and recycles the chips into biodegradable mulch.

These are all good reasons to revive the beauty product of my teen years!
