The New Cadillac 2022 XT6 Premium Luxury AWD

I had the opportunity to drive the new Cadillac 2022 XT6 for one week, and took the luxe mid-size SUV for a drive from Los Angeles to the Paradise Point Resort in San Diego, CA. Using my Keyless Open and Adaptive Remote, I sat in the car and the automatic seat belt tightening system kept me comfortable, snug and protected in the driver’s seat. What makes this Cadillac extra fun to drive is the Super Cruise driver assistance technology. This allowed me to drive hands-free, while I kept my eyes on the road.

When I used the Adaptive Cruise Control, I maintained a selected following gap with any detected vehicle ahead. Sensors and GPS, along with LiDAR precision map data work in tandem to detect every curve, helping the vehicle stay centered in the lane. There are Super Cruise upgrades that allow drivers additional functions that include Automatic Lane Change for optimal initiation of the maneuver, while following signaling protocols.

“The interior environment is about simplicity, with an execution of premium materials,” said Andrew Smith, executive director, Cadillac Design. “We want the customer to focus on the experience —making each journey extraordinary.”

The 2022 XT6 provides leading-edge safety features that include night vision safety during nighttime driving. While driving, the speed is illuminated on the windshield to inform drivers. Driving is smooth in all driving modes – Tour, Sport, All Wheel Drive and Off Road.

The steering column offers power tilt and telescoping to adjust to the driver’s preference. Above is a sunroof and power sunshade that runs the length of the back seats allowing fresh air and natural light inside.

What took me a while to get used to was the real-time camera rearview mirror. Instead of looking into the rearview mirror to see myself, the rear seat rows, and cars behind the car, I only saw cars and background that appeared closer than they actually were to the rear bumper and camera.

What makes families happy is the three rows of individual seats. The power-folding second and third row seats allows easier access to the third row. With the push of a button in the back behind the third row, rows two and three lie flat for  groceries, skis, Home Depot runs, and luggage for a road trip. The illuminated Cadillac Crest hands-free liftgate switch is on the driver door and on a touch pad under the back of the SUV. There is also a kick zone that can be personalized to open and close the lift gate with a kicking motion.

The Cadillac Mobile Integration allows Smart Phone apps at my fingertips. Connected to Apple CarPlay, I could easily access my iMessages, Apple Music and other apps on the touchscreen or Siri voice-command. Listening to music is an immersive sound experience from the Bose speakers.

Every Cadillac includes Wireless Charging so I could charge my phone every time the vehicle was running.

All Cadillac models, including the XT6, come with the same standard warranty package. It entails bumper-to-bumper coverage for four years or 50,000 miles and a powertrain warranty that stretches to six years or 70,000 miles. Most of the XT6’s European rivals offer only a four-year/50,000-mile package for both warranties.

The standard vehicle price is $54,995. The XT6 I drove had an upgraded package and options for a $73,415 price. The combined city and highway fuel economy is 21 MPG, and annual fuel costs is around $1,700 depending on your state.
