Things to Consider When Visiting North Carolina
If you’re planning a trip to North Carolina having a grasp on all of the attractions the state has to offer will provide you with the most amazing and engaging experience. With a state that has mountains, beaches, and plenty of unique opportunities, you’re guaranteed to indulge in a wide variety of activities.
Here’s just a few things to consider when planning a trip to North Carolina.
The Outer Banks
Looking for a family-friendly beach vacation? Well, look no further. With 200 miles of coastal sands, small beach towns within the Outer Banks have a great selection of vacation rentals from private houses to resorts or hotels.
Not only does this destination have plenty of beach life, restaurants, and shopping but it also has plenty of historical museums and lighthouses to explore. Not to mention the drive on beaches with dozens of wild horses roaming around.
North Carolina Aquarium
If you want to skip the beach but are still interested in viewing aquatic animals, The North Carolina Aquarium is the perfect place to go. With four different locations, you can view sharks, humpback whales, and hundreds of different fish species.
You can find these aquariums at Roanoke Island, Pine Knoll Shores, Jennette’s Pier, or Fort Fisher.
Chimney Rock State Park
For incredible views and an impressive 404-foot waterfall, Chimney Rock State Park has plenty to offer just a few miles from Asheville. Whether you want to view the waterfall from the base or from the top, both ways can be easily achieved. Hickory Nut Falls Trail is a moderate level hiking trail that gives you a great view at the base of the waterfall.
But if you’re feeling more adventurous and wanting a view from the top of the waterfall, take a quick trip up the 26-story elevator that is built inside the mountain to catch an incredible view without breaking a sweat.
Biltmore Estate
A Gilded Age mansion that was completed in 1895 is owned privately by the wealthy Vanderbilt family. This prestigious mansion and grounds can be viewed by the public and is one of the top attractions in Asheville.
A surprise to most is the restaurant and winery that are within the grounds where many families have dinner or wine tastings while enjoying the breathtaking views of the property.
Great Smoky Mountains National Park
The top attraction of North Carolina is none other than the most visited national park in the United States. More than 12 million visitors come here annually to hike, horseback ride, fish, camp, and more.
With forests, waterfalls, and more not placing this park on your to do list would be a mistake.

From top colleges such as The University of North Carolina, delicious restaurants, live music, historic castles, family farms, and plenty of activities for kids you probably won’t have time to explore all of it in just one day.
