Unique Spring Travel Experiences

Unique Spring Travel Experiences

With many coming down with the Covid-19 Omicron variant in recent months, people are now seeing their antibody window of opportunity to travel. Virtuoso has recently even said the variant is no longer a deterrent, but a motivator. A January 2022 poll from the consortium found that 85% of respondents were “ready to travel,” and 86% said they planned on traveling internationally this year. Further, Virtuoso predicts bookings to trend upward as the first quarter comes to a close and omicron continues to subside. Wanting to get away, those who recovered from the virus are motivated more than ever to book a trip. With that, I wanted to share the best places to visit with unique experiences for March.

Rome, Italy

Travelers visiting Rome in March can still visit historical sites with low crowds though with the busy summer season around the corner it’s sure not to last much longer. An ideal place to stay in the heart of the city, the Sofitel Rome Villa Borghese is a former 19th century Roman palazzo that lies within walking distance of some of the city’s best-known cultural landmarks and parks, including the Trevi Fountain, Villa Medici and Spanish Steps. A novel offering in the city, Archeo Running even hosts private runs guided by a former coach of Coni (Italian National Olympic Committee) that also happens to hold a postgraduate degree in Art History. Run or walk through the city with casual stops at the St. Peter’s Square, Roman Forum and the Colosseum. And with average temperatures in the 60s, it’s an ideal time to take advantage of the city’s outdoor and rooftop dining and aperitivos.

Norway

After close to two years of strict Covid-19 restrictions and border closures, Norway is now open to all travelers with no quarantine requirement. An interesting take on the country that just took home the Winter Olympics most gold medals,  Up Norway’s newest journey that takes ski enthusiasts out on the water as well. Custom to skill level, the Ski and Sail Journey in the Sunnmore Alps, famous for their alpine skiing and amazing fjord views, couples guided summit-to-fjord runs with a private boat trip around Hjørundfjord. An extended option includes overnight stay aboard an expedition ship to different runs throughout the fjord.

Los Cabos, Mexico

Marine lovers should head to Los Cabos, Mexico to witness the breaching whales for the last time until December. When staying at the AAA Five Diamond Grand Velas Los Cabos resort, guests can spot the magnificent creatives right from their pool chaise or charter the resort’s 55-foot Azimut yacht to get up close and personal. On board, guests will be treated to regionally-inspired cocktails, such as a Tamarind Mezcalita or Basil Sotolita, as well as wine and cheese from the Valle de Guadalupe, homemade bread and marmalade, and cold cuts—all while cruising the azure waters. Gray whales come to the coasts of Baja California Sur to mate and give birth to their young.
