FOUR WALLS WELCOMES JEWEL OF THE SOUTH FOR AN ART-FORWARD COCKTAIL COLLABORATION
The Joseph, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Nashville, is pleased to announce a distinctive cocktail experience within its intimate haven Four Walls, with New Orleans’ treasured Jewel of the South, recipient of the 2024 Michter’s Art of Hospitality Award for North America’s 50 Best Bars and ranked no. 49 on the 2023 World’s 50 Best Bars list.
On April 3 and 4, the two-night event will draw inspiration from the Southern/Modern exhibit at Nashville’s Frist Art Museum and seamlessly blend the essence of two beloved Southern cities, curated by Four Walls’ Lead Bartender Mickey Stevenson and Jewel of the South’s Co-Owner and Bartender Chris Hannah.
“It’s an honor to welcome Chris Hannah and the Jewel of the South team to Nashville,” says Stevenson. “The level of execution and creativity they offer is something I’ve admired for a long time, and to be able to bring that to Four Walls for our guests to experience is very special.”
The current Southern/Modern exhibit delves into art from the American South between 1913 to 1955, weaving together the region’s rich cultures, depicting stories of agriculture, industry, class division, racial injustice, natural beauty, and stylistic innovation. The exhibit features paintings and works on paper by Carroll Cloar, Aaron Douglas, Will Henry Stevens, Alma Thomas, and Caroline Durieux, including her “Bourbon Street, New Orleans,” depicting a singing duet and mirroring the harmonious collaboration between Four Walls and Jewel of the South.
The collaborative menu will showcase themed cocktails inspired by the exhibition, including stirred cocktails from Jewel of the South, such as the Bywater (El Dorado Rum 5 Year, Smith & Cross Rum, Amaro Averna, Chartreuse, Orange Bitters and Peychaud’s Bitters) and Dandy Dillinger (Corsair Gin, Amaro Nonino, Cocchi di Torino Vermouth, Combier Kummel and Orange Bitters). Alongside, Four Walls will present shaken creations, including the Emerald City (Corsair Gin, Wasabi, Lime, Rum Auricle, Rhum Agricole, Calpico, Sesame Oil) and Sorbet Petillant (Corsair Bourbon, Lillet Rose, Lemon, Demerara and Prosecco).A surprise collaborative cocktail crafted by both teams will round out the enticing menu.
“The cocktail scene in Nashville is really interesting right now,” says Hannah. “We’re excited that Four Walls and Mickey’s team are bringing attention to another southern city like ours to the forefront of the industry.”
This collaboration is part of an intriguing new event series at Four Walls, in which the team will welcome like-minded and award-winning bars to host collaborative experiences stimulated by exhibitions at Frist Art Museum, honoring The Joseph’s commitment to the arts community. This August, Four Walls will welcome London’s Lyaness, listed no. 39 on the World’s 50 Best Bars list in 2019, inspired by Lee Alexander McQueen & Ann Ray: Rendez-Vous, showcasing a rare glimpse of the iconic British fashion designer through the lens of one of the 20th century’s great, but lesser-known, fashion photographers, Ann Ray.
The Four Walls x Jewel of the South pop-up will take place from 5 pm to 10 pm on Wednesday, April 3, and Thursday, April 4; walk-ins only. Valet parking is available at The Joseph at 401 Korean Veterans Blvd., and rideshare is encouraged with drop-off at Four Walls’ 4th Avenue South entrance marked by the bar’s illuminated icon. About Four Walls
Four Walls sets the stage for an unexpected combination of elements influenced by Music City, the American West, and Italy. Marking the final piece of The Joseph Hotel’s award-winning culinary and beverage program, the cocktail bar draws inspiration from founder Joel Pizzuti’s Italian-American heritage, with whispers of Spaghetti Western cinematography as an homage to classic cowboy culture in a textured, design-forward ambiance. Opening with a tribute to the song “Four Walls” by the late American country music singer-songwriter and a founder of the Nashville sound, Jim Reeves, the menu features signature, refined cocktails. Adding a touch of Italy, “La Famiglia Negroni” features nine variations of the timeless cocktail, while the “Old Favorites” honor forgotten classics with a house twist. Italy’s beloved Aperitivo hour shines in Four Walls’ Quick Hands menu which offers an elevated assortment of shareable snacks celebrating the flavors of Nashville and Italy, and quality underscores every decision and shapes every drink prepared behind the blood-red, Rosso Levanto Italian marble bar.
