Christmas Decorating Trends for 2020
Christmas is just around the corner and there is no shame in throwing yourself into the celebrations and getting into the festive spirit early. We all need something to look forward to after the year we’ve had. If you’re looking for ideas on how to decorate your home this year then you’re in the right place.
Scandi-Inspired
If you’re not too sure, Scandi design is all about the clean and minimal look. It celebrates the outdoors, with all the cosiness of inside. You can adorn your door with a garland, and be sure to have an enchanting Christmas tree. You can play around with the style, and see which pieces you like the best. Looking for the perfect finish? Be sure to have a roaring fire to give your room that extra cosy feel.
Neutral Colours
This goes hand in hand with the Scandi style. In the past, you may have felt like you needed to stick to the red and green theme traditionally associated with Christmas. Have you always found this a bit garish? We’ve got some good news for you. Neutral decorations are definitely in this year. They can match the colour scheme that already exists in your home. They tend to revolve around white, black, navy, and wooden tones. Sometimes the most simple touches have the biggest impact.
Nostalgic Décor
This year has shown us just how much we appreciate our families, so a lot of us are turning towards nostalgic decorations. Pieces that remind us of the past and create a hopeful present. Whether it’s a ceramic angel your nan had, or a home-made pom pom one of the kids made at school – this year your Christmas decorations can celebrate your family. You may not all be allowed to meet up, but you’ll be around the Christmas tree in spirit.
Natural Materials
There’s nothing quite like finding the perfect present for your loved one. When it comes to wrapping your gifts up, you can also give a present to the planet. There are lots of things you can do to create a more sustainable Christmas. You can use brown paper bags with Christmas messages on, which can be recycled. Or you can buy wrapping paper which is made out of recycled material. Finish off with natural materials such a piece of pine, rather than using a ribbon which is likely to be thrown away. You could even reuse gift bags you’ve received in the past. Get creative and help the environment.
However you choose to decorate your house this year, remember to have fun with it. It’s probably going to be different this Christmas but try to make the most of it. How will you be styling your home for the holidays?
